Embarassing Question: Seat Deposit
I have a really embarassing question- what do we do if we can't pay the seat deposit? Is there financial aid for that? I'm saving for a move across the country as well as paying off taxes, and just curious. I can get the money if I need it, but a 4-digit seat deposit on top of a cross country move on top of owing on my taxes might not be possible. What do I do?

I think the answer varies by school.

Not embarrassing by any means. A look outside at the economy would suggest the same. Contact the admission's office of the school you plan to attend. Given everything ITE, they might be willing to work something out.

Well, many top schools have an initial $500 deposit and then another $500 deposit further into the summer. that's 4 digits right there.kalvano wrote:Wait, 4 digit seat deposit? What school is that?

Huh. Didn't know that. The shame of being in the slums of law school, I suppose.
OP, I had to deal with some issues with seat deposits, and I found the schools very willing to work with me. It's not so much the money as they are looking for who is serious and who isn't.

That makes sense. I think I'll just call them and explain the situation. Thanks, guys.

I'm in the same boat- I get readjustment $$ from the Peace Corps, but I won't have it, or be able to pay seat deposit until July. At least one school (GULC) lets you sign a binding agreement in lieu of seat deposit, and I'm hoping that others are willing to follow suit.

I was thinking about, after I make my decision, signing something like that or withdrawing from every other school. Something to prove I'm serious about it. Or maybe I'll ask for half.

Im gonna end up in a similar situation if I cant save up the $1500 I need to go to the school I want. How Im going to come up with that kind of money by April 15th is beyond me.

I'm also in the same boat. My mom is currently unemployed and I don't work so...I'm going to see if they can work with me.
