GW need-based aid
GW actually has a significant need-based aid fund, which is surprising since few law schools do.
Has anyone around here received need-based grant(s) from GW? If so I would really, really appreciate a PM. I have to commit to a law school (well, a region of the country, and if I'm in DC I want GW at least) as early as the first couple of weeks in March. Very unlikely I'll have need-based grant information by then. I'm trying to get an idea of how much they may give me so I can make a sound decision.

Actually, if anybody does have that kind of info, could you please just post what you know. I don't really get the need based aid thing at all really, doesn't just about everyone need to take out loans for law school and thus should qualify for this kind of aid?

The aid at GW is from $1k to $16k per year, so most people will still need loans.2011Law wrote:Actually, if anybody does have that kind of info, could you please just post what you know. Additionally, at most schools, there is no need-based grant aid at all. So most students still need loans.
I don't know how GW determines if you're needy enough, but they probably consider your parents' income in addition to your own. They also might consider socioeconomic factors such as parents' highest level of education? I don't know, I'm just guessing. I'd like to hear from anyone who knows anything, even if it's just a 1L who got some need-based aid.

They base it off income/assets of you, your parents (if under 30ish), and your spouse (if married).
They also force you to take out a full Stafford loan (20.5k/year) if you do get need-based.
Also, you are ineligible for need-based if you have a merit scholarship.

Ah okay. I sincerely doubt I'll get any merit-based aid. I'm going PT.bk187 wrote:They base it off income/assets of you, your parents (if under 30ish), and your spouse (if married).

Do you have any idea where the cutoffs are? My wife and I didn't make much last year and we have over a hundred thousand dollars in pharmacy school loans. My mother has zero income. My dad is lower middle class and has a child in college.
