Somewhere from around the time classes start to a few weeks after. In grad school now, for Spring 2010, first day of classes was 1/19, check was dated Feb 1.

TITCR. Prepare to front your first months rent (unless you're living in university housing, in that case check because they may credit you), cost of books, and about half a month's cost of living.

Exact times may vary, but so far I've gathered that most school's loan dispersion is during the first week of classes.

Right. Depending on when you move in, you may actually need TWO months rent if there's any kind of hold up and you have a landlord rather than university specific housing.

They also said it's better to get direct deposit, so you don't wait longer.

Law school has their own financial aid office. As with all of the law school offices, they're very responsive.
