You certainly need to ask the school directly. Different schools do it differently. I know USC, for example, requires you to accept scholarship before the first deposit, but not loans.

Does anyone know the answer to this:

I you put a seat deposit down, and accept financial aid, do you have to go to that school if you got off of a waitlist a week or two later?
