Scholarships for sub 2.5ish GPAs? Do they exist?

Post by Generic20101L » Wed Mar 17, 2010 6:34 pm

I have been accepted into a bunch of schools where my LSAT is 5-10 points over median. My Degree GPA is over 3.5 and the reason my LSAC GPA is so bad is because of 10 years ago and me being REALLY immature.

Do I have any hope at scholarships or has my past made that an impossibility?

Sorry, I doubt you do. Especially this late in the cycle. Most scholarships are already handed out.

If you were in charge of scholarship money, would you give any to someone with a sub-2.5 GPA?

This is a good point, because the person in charge of scholarship money will have to explain things to whoever is in charge of him. It's just not worth the hassle of defending a person who would easily be judged to have little promise in performing well.

If they had above a 3.5 and hadn't made a C since the 90s and their LSAT was 8 points over median I would.

Would you not?

I would and apparently so would some T25 schools, judging from LSN and my past cycle. However, it's definitely the exception rather than the norm. In OP's case, it seems to be unlikely because the scholarships for this type of applicant usually comes off the waitlist when they want your really high LSAT.
What do you mean comes off the waitlist?

Did you display this fact prominently in a GPA addendum?

They do, but I bet it is rare. I have a half-scholarship at a school where my LSAT is 6 points above the 75% and a LSAC GPA of 2.22 (long story involving three community college courses I took in HS in the 90s and an UG that didn't have letter grades = LSAC determining my cumulative GPA on those three CC courses). So, ya, cool story bro.

Very clearly and without a doubt. Ben Stein couldn't have made it any clearer than I did.
