Parent Plus Loan Delinquency and Grad Plus Loan Eligibility

Post by shawty18ga » Mon Mar 08, 2010 5:26 pm

Today I received a call from my dad telling me that he received a call saying that he was delinquent on a ParentPlus loan that he took out for me this year. We both thought it was in deferral, but apparently we didn't take all the necessary steps to defer it. He called and got it deferred, but I am worried that this will affect my eligibility for the GradPlus loans that I will probably need. So will his delinquency on the ParentPlus loan affect my ability to secure the GradPlus loans or won't it?

It shouldn't affect your eligibility, no. The Parent PLUS is in his name, not yours. However, if you end up needing a cosigner for the Grad PLUS, his delinquency might be a problem, so I'd ask someone else to cosign.
