Negotiating Financial Aid?

Post by groundkontrol » Mon Feb 22, 2010 5:26 pm

When we're negotiating financial aid or want one school to match another school's offer who do we contact? The financial aid office or the admissions office? I just assumed that the people working the financial aid wouldn't know much about school rankings....

Schools do this differently. Most of the schools I have pestered for merit money have the admissions office deal with merit aid while the financial aid office deals with need based aid and loans. If you send your request by email and you address it to the wrong office, they will forward it to the right place. You can always call and ask to be safe.

^ he's right.

merit is done by admissions.

need is done by financial aid.

typically i sent my letters to both places, to be safe.
