Need Access???

Post by Neelio » Mon Feb 22, 2010 10:16 am

I have been out of college for almost 3 years now, working full time. Consequently, I am financially independent. Is this "Need Access" a requirement? Do I have to fill it out even thought I don't rely on my parents for financial assistance? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I think there are ways to get out of it, however you will not qualify. Being three years out isn't even close to requirements I have seen for a school to consider you independent.

You are probably about 25 or 26 right? I think they will just assume that your parents will contribute to you (based on their ability of course). If this isn't true, then you get screwed. Just how it works.

If you want any grants as part of your financial aid package, then NeedAccess is most likely required. Some schools have a "loans only" option where you forfeit the right to be considered for grants but will be able to skip NeedAccess, talking to parents, etc.

Some schools wanted it by February 1st. Check the schools you applied to.

Thanks... I also noticed that it's only some schools that require it. I was looking at the drop down menu, and it looks as if only a select bunch of schools require it. is this true also?

Question. Do you have to re-do and/or update need access each new year (for 2L and 3L) or is your first time the last?

You have to do the FAFSA every year, the NeedAccess form should be a one time thing
