Homeowners - Need Access

Post by pleasetryagain » Thu Feb 11, 2010 4:20 pm

Are you including your home in your estimated assets as of Sep 1 2010? Obviously, I will still have my home but I am not sure it qualifies as an "other investment." Also, the value of your home is asked for in a separate prompt.
_____* Anticipated Assets - 9/1/2010 (Help ID: c85)
Enter the best estimate of the amount of money which will be in the student's (and spouse's) cash, savings, checking account, and other investments as of September 1, 2010. Do not include financial aid funds which will be depleted by then.

ahh.. I knew someone had to be in a similar situation.. I decided not to include it as well given the language of the application. Thanks

No, you don't include home here. As you say, it asks for it somewhere else. I filled this out last year (I have some real estate) so I'm pretty sure (though this is not legal advice :)

Just FYI: some schools will take all of these extra estimated assets and none of your home. So now is a good time to take that 40K you have hidden under the mattress and go buy a house.

no kidding. hopefully the additional rent (if i can get it rented) will help cover some expenses for moving/books etc. Other than that its probably under water.
