Re: Columbia Financial Aid 2011
I was offered 50k + 10k if I pursue public interest from NYU, and Columbia offered 40k in response.

Re: Columbia Financial Aid 2011
Is there a way to predict when I might hear back from CLS about Financial Aid? Does it depend on when I was accepted/when I sent in all my financial aid stuff? Also, how need-based does the aid seem to be? If I come from a middle class family and won't have a dime saved up when I enter law school can I assume I'll get at least a little something?

not sure.
Not sure, but I'm guessing it does. FWIW, I had all of my financial aid info in on time (very near the deadline in fact).redsoxfan2495 wrote:Does it depend on when I was accepted/when I sent in all my financial aid stuff?
Not sure, I've been wondering how big the pool is. Obviously, it depends on the school and Columbia seems like it has as much as its peers, maybe more but this is ENTIRELY speculation on my part based on anecdotal evidence posted on this board (thus, don't put much stock in it). I too am "middle class" but I think it depends on much more nuanced factors than that. FWIW, I received a substantial amount of need-based aid from at least one other school that I applied to (and not HYS -- I note this since they are very well known for giving out a tremendous amount of need-based aid)- this signaled to me that I might have a shot at some aid from CLS. Good luck!redsoxfan2495 wrote:Also, how need-based does the aid seem to be? Is Columbia more likely to match aid from Chicago or NYU?

What do you guys think about sending a grant application in now? I didn't apply originally because I thought I would never get tax information from my estranged parent (plus I figured I wouldn't get anything) but I'm starting to have serious doubts. FWIW I was admitted in December (ED)... Did most people who received grants expect them, or are there some people who got money when they didn't think they would qualify? I know it's super late to even try this so maybe there's no point, but I'm scared of the debt
