People telling you to get a job are actually giving you helpful advice.

You do what most people do to sustain a living...work and save. Four months is plenty of time to save up money for the first few months of rent until your loan money comes in. If that's not possible, I'd recommend taking a year off to work.

Don't have any credit cards?
Seriously consider getting a shitty job even for a month or two. How much do you realistically need to have to move?

getting a new apartment and paying security deposit and first and last month rent cost me 3k. I don't know what rent is like where he is moving but if you add gas other moving expenses it could potentially be very expensive.2014 wrote:Don't have any credit cards?

Oftentimes if you sublease you don't have to pay large deposits. OP could also consider renting a room, which is substantially more affordable - maybe on a month-by-month basis or a 3/6 month lease. And if OP doesn't have credit cards, now's the time to start working on that credit score...a little credit gardening here and there, and you can build a safety net (even if you've made mistakes in the past).

Oh btw OP, pm'ing people who (correctly) called you an asshole and telling them to go fuck themselves, which they did little to provoke you? That's just precious.

Someone get OP s copy of Hitchhiker's guide to the Galaxy
Seriously, though, if you're too ____ to get a job (I will refrain from inserting snarky comment) here are some more options:
Sell eggs/semen
Sell your hair
Sell your blood
Hell, sell your body (become a drug trial test subject)
Sell your posessions
Beg, borrow (don't steal - C&F)
Take part in consumer surveys
Hit up all your friends for whatever they can spare
Learn to love beans on toast (and other super cheap fare - like pasta with butter)
Seriously, figure it out and stop whining

How do other people do it that don't have mommy and daddy helping them or someone else giving them money? Can I get loans in realistic enough time to make the move so I can even make it to class in August?
Thanks!
Getting butt hurt that I mentioned mommy and daddy helping must have really hit a nerve with you; did you get help from mommy and daddy? Because if not than don't worry about any underline meaning of me being "snarky" or whatever yuppy adjective you want to give, take what I said at face value. If you did it without their help then by all means your opinion is of importance as long as it is not trying to extrapolate what I said into meanings I did not say!

Re: How do I afford to move to my law school?
Tried to FTFY but that last sentence, wow! My mommy and daddy are helping me. That is because I chose an undergrad where I had a full scholarship so all the hard earned money they saved for my college education was still in play. Oh yeah, also had a job in school. Thanks mommy and daddy.kfeaston wrote:franklyscarlet wrote:No advice for you, but that mommy and daddy comment was so unnecessarily snarky. Some of us dont have mommy and daddy, we have jobs. Re: How do I afford to move to my law school?
TLS has not traditionally been the place for someone to boost your self esteem.... I think that some people take offense to the "whoa is me" approach, and there is likely some merit to that.
Having said that, I understand the upfront costs can be staggering when you look at the cost of moving / deposits / etc, let alone tuition and whatnot. I heavily recommend against using credit to finance the move & other costs, especially if you're limited on loan amounts. Those numbers are often set on 9 month budgets, and if you pull 5k out for a move that you can't afford it could turn into something much more serious than deferring a year.
*** Law school should not be something that is done spur of the moment. I've worked 50-60hrs/week for 3 years to ensure that when it comes time for those expenses that they're the least of my concerns. I see plenty of people going to law school who simply are not ready and/or cannot afford it.
Bottom line, this isn't for everyone.

How, how, HOW did I know this guy was military? I guess it was the cocky attitude from the get-go, the "underline" woe-is-me-in-a-world-full-of-silver-spoon-babies sentiment in the post, and the absolute NEED to respond with a very sketchy command of English vocabulary to anyone who said anything that might have offended him. How the hell anyone even makes it through basic training with skin that thin is beyond me.Oklahoma2014 wrote:Saw your other post in the "what are my chances" forum. With being a disabled veteran is there not anything financially you can get from the VA in advance to help with your move? Not a veteran myself so don't know how all that works, just a thought.

Re: How do I afford to move to my law school?
If you are already struggling just to pay the initial down payment, you are f*cked....
You might consider taking off a year, otherwise, you will have to take out a personal loan, an dvancement on your credit card, payday loans. These are not good options.....
You better get a job NOW otherwise that move to NJ is going to be a b*tch. Starting the school year with $5,000 in debt is not good, when you will have to pay the books, tuition, etc.
If you have had bankruptcy problems, I would strongly consider waiting. Your first year will be difficult and you will have tremendous debt. If you don't get big law, you will be screwed. Taking on a lot of credit card debt might be worth it, only if you knew you had a big law summer gig making $20,000 and could easily pay that off over the summer.

No offense dude, but wouldn't you just be better off going to a low tiered school who would give you more scholarship money? I mean I don't think it will hurt your job prospects?kfeaston wrote:I have no money due to all of it being spent finishing my undergrad and I think I may get accepted to Seton Hall. We're getting "butt hurt" because you sound like someone who is lazy and condescending to those who are more fortunate than you, and honestly, a pompous asshole. Some of us... I don't know... Like to overcome our obstacles with *gasp* hard work? Financial intellect? Not bitching all the time?
Good luck, tool.
