My need access asks for 2010 income, not 2009. Am I just supposed to estimate?

Ok great...I haven't en gone complete there lol...it didn't make sense to to have that in and not even be admitted yet.booboo wrote:Thanks for that DCD!DCD wrote:Just called Chicago. Spoke to the nicest adcomm Ive encountered during this cycle. She said February 1 is the deadline for already admitted students. If you havent been admitted yet it's ok to file it this week or next. They only download the need access info for admitted students.

I've learned (from unnamed sources) that February 1 was the deadline for already admitted students. If you havent been admitted yet it's ok to file it this week or next.

If my mother estimates and is off once she gets her taxes done can you go back and change it?

Well, my parents couldn't come up with their half of the form in time (they are busy people and supported me the majority of my life, I'm not angry at them). Does this mean I'm SOL for aid? Really cool system, law schools.

OMG Just trying this now.
Can someone tell me how to estimate relocation expense, summer income, etc?
I am assuming that the most important thing is to report tax return income... I'm hoping everything else is able to be fudged because I don't have a clue as to some of it.
Also not sure what "other assets" even means. Do they just contact you if they think something fishy is going on and you need to clarify?

Re: NeedAccess is the biggest PITA...
For summer income I assumed my last year would equal this year and divided by 4 to get 3 month chunks (since it defines summer as the three months immediately preceding when you'll be starting law school).CordeliusX wrote:OMG Just trying this now.

As far as moving expenses goes, I just guess-timated how much it'd be to rent a uhaul.

Re: NeedAccess is the biggest PITA...
Anyone have an opinion on:
medical/dental expenses (if your employer puts 100 bucks for you each month, does that count?)
cash/savings/check 9-1-2010 vs. anticipated assets 9-1-2010 (I'm thinking the assets just means you add business, real estate value, etc. which I do not have, so these are equal)
student's other grants/loans. I'm assuming we should say 0 since we have no idea if law school will provide any aid necessarily???
I am surprised I see no "expected tuition + estimated living expenses" anywhere on this or FAFSA
Also, I have an IRA. Please don't tell me they expect us to tap into that.
I don't really see what Need Access is trying to analyze. Let's say you have 3000, or 30,000, or 100,000 in the bank. Do they just say "throw whatever he has in there each year, divided by 3"??

I know this is a little late, but I'm new to the site(!). Just wanted to mention that I think you should only fill in "medical expenses" if you'll be claiming them on your tax return. Talk to your accountant. Unless you're going to have $5,000+ in medical expenses this year, you probably won't get to claim them on your tax return.
I tried to fill that one in, too.

Re: NeedAccess is the biggest PITA...
I might have messed up then, because for 2010 I projected I'd be paying insurance premiums because I'll be out of a job over summer and a student later. Maybe that was bad... but I don't think it would affect their decision muchbarracudasix wrote:I know this is a little late, but I'm new to the site(!). Yep-that's what I tried to do, too. I bet ppl do it all the time. I wish they had notes for clarification throughout the form...
