2009 Pre-Law Undergraduate Scholars Program (PLUS)

Post by headache » Wed Apr 08, 2009 7:10 pm

Has anyone been accepted to the PLUS program yet? I was accepted to Villanova PLUS for this summer (I applied to other sites, but haven't received decision notifications yet). Has anyone participated in PLUS in the past? I'm looking forward to it!

Does PLUS give you a slight boost in law school admissions, or is it negligible?

As a former PLUS student and 0L, I'd like to say that your success in the PLUS may be taken as a strong indiciation for your potential to succeed in law school. The program is absolutely fantastic, loved every minute of it. Law schools that i've applied to loved the fact that I've been formely trained in legal theory and writing. You will also meet law school professors who are eager to mentor you and perhaps even be willing to write you recommendations. And ofcourse, you meet classmates and build friendships that last forever. You will also get to network with judges from the Federal Circuit and partners/associates from Big Law firms - take particular advantage of these opportunties.

Look forward to this summer, it'll contribute heavily to your legal academic, personal and professional growth and it'll definitley be one of the best experiences of your life.

Ee! I'm excited! I feel extremely fortunate that I was selected. Which PLUS site did you attend? You say that law schools respond favorably to PLUS participants?

That's awesome - congrats! I don't think there really is anyway to prep. You're going to meet some great people: lawyers, judges, professors and students alike - so if anything, I'd make sure I start practicing on my professional networking skills if that happens to be an issue for you.

Remember, this is a purely educational experience yet you should be ready to do some substantive academic work. Enjoy!

I am currently in the process of writing my PS and i do not know what angle to go with. I feel like i have a lot of obstacles, especially since i grew up in an urban setting and over became the odds. But what chances do I have, if my currrent gpa is 3.56

So far I have been accepted into the Philip Hubbard program. @headache: I noticed you stated that you received an admission into all of the PLUS program. How did you know which one to choose? Because I have been looking around for students comment all the different programs, but I can’t find anything to help me make a decision.

Even though they're not offering it this year I went to the PLUS Program at Villanova and I thought it was an amazing experience. They tried to let us know what it would be like in law school by giving us daily reading assignments in every subject. The teachers they had would also use the Socratic method. Then every Friday we would take a field trip. We went to the Prosecutor's office, a law firm, and Washington D.C. to the Supreme Court Building. We also had guest speakers come and talk to us. Then at the end we also did some debates. I thought all in all it was a great experience. I got to meet some great people, learn more about law school and the legal profession, and you get an LSAC fee waiver for participating in the program which I ddn't know about until I registered for LSDAS. So if you can get into any of the programs I would definitely recommend it.
