They sent it to minorities and LGBT people, but I wonder if they just want to increase the number of applications.

They want to boost numbers. It is too late in the cycle now.AJ1010 wrote:They sent it to minorities and LGBT people, but I wonder if they just want to increase the number of applications.

IDK about that. I just got a fee waiver from Cornell and UT-Austin and both my numbers are well below the medians. Since they gave me one though might as well applyMr_Chukes wrote:They want to boost numbers. was pretty surprised to get that. I had held off applying because it's a long shot, but this is the encouragement I needed. just need to get one more academic LoR since that's such a big deal for them.AJ1010 wrote:Anyone else get the email from Yale asking them to apply?
I mean... they wouldn't send it out to everyone if they didn't actually have spots left? Right?

It really isn't too late in the cycle for yale...they release decisions later in general, and are pretty black box. Also, can confirm I have a friend currently attending who only applied after they got that email this time last year.Mr_Chukes wrote:They want to boost numbers. First two WLs of my cycle a week apart. Duke and UPENN, going to withdrawal my spot since I got into Chicago.
Here's hoping I get that Columbia email soon!

Hello fellow URMs!
Just popping in to say I just received my JS1 a few minutes ago!
I thought I'd share with everyone, because TLS in general, and the URM threads in particular, have been a very valuable resource for me.
My GPA is slightly above the 25th and my LSAT is slightly below. My softs are probably below average - average for HLS.

So Harvard can admit a bit over 100 students below 170 without lowering their 25th?

How'd you arrive at this number?ood wrote:So Harvard can admit a bit over 100 students below 170 without lowering their 25th?

562 matriculated last year. 25% of 562 is 149 - so about 149 people at or below 170 went to Harvard last year. If you then take into account the 931 people they accepted there were probably over 149 people at or below 170, cause prolly not all of them matriculated.crookedsmile wrote:How'd you arrive at this number?ood wrote:So Harvard can admit a bit over 100 students below 170 without lowering their 25th?

MATH IS POWER. I was just wondering how so many people below 25th stats were getting JS1's and then I was like, oh, that's not an average.TAD wrote:562 matriculated last year. 25% of 562 is 149 - so about 149 people at or below 170 went to Harvard last year. Riley Freeman = the GOAT. Although, perhaps I should've chosen Huey because of the MLK Day episode.........crookedsmile wrote:+1brinicolec wrote:Happy Black History Month, y'all!
