NYU BLSA??
Can anyone shed light on how the BLSA chapter is at NYU? How close knit the community is , how many active members, what are the events like and how helpful the community has been in terms of connections, jobs and what not? I've been accepted at NYU but a huge factor in my decision is what the BLSA is like. I visited Georgetown and was so impressed by how close knit , inclusive and welcoming the BLSA was . Wondering if the same goes for NYU . Thanks!

Re: NYU BLSA??
I'm not part of the group but I have a few friends who are. It seems like a great, tight-knit community with a fantastic mentorship program. They have a tiny bit more information here as well: http://www.law.nyu.edu/studentorganizations/balsa

Re: NYU BLSA??
BALSA has a ridiculous amount of resources, probably the most funded group on campus. I'm not in it, but wish I were.

Re: NYU BLSA??
I know I'm late in responding but.... NYU BALSA is super tightnit. Annual retreat and annual international trip over winter break offer really good opportunities to bond. This year I think the trip was to somewhere in west-africa. I don't know all the details, but BALSA paid for most, if not all of it (we're pretty well funded, as the poster above notes). I didn't go, but it sounds like people had a great time. Formal mentoring programs throughout the year, so if you need upper classmen to hold your hand during finals, you'll have people to turn to. This year we had smaller dinners around the city at members' houses' organized around topics/issues members are interested in. So lots of opportunities to build relationships. Also, alumni is super engaged and there's at least 3 or 4 events throughout the year geared toward making those kinds of connections. Spring semester, we put on a bunch of firm sponsored dinners at restaurants around the Village so you can start thinking about your bid list and making connections at firms you're interested in.
I think there's maybe a 100 or so active BALSA members (I might be wrong). Look at the ABA numbers on black students at NYU--BALSA participation is a little bit less than every black student at NYU (but not by much).
