Anyone here in their late 30s or 40s?
I attended law school for a while in my 20s, but withdrew for personal reasons (new baby + new marriage). I'm 45 now and plan on taking the LSAT in September for a fall 2017 start. Are there any other non-traditional prospective students here? Or can someone point me to an existing thread?
For the record, I'm a mixed race female (AA, Asian, Caucasian).
Thanks.

There's definitely some threads out there, I tried to search and didn't find much specifically for nontraditional students.
If you're re-taking the LSAT this Sept have you begun studying?
I recommend the LSAT Trainer, Powerscore Bibles, and all the practice tests you can get your hands on. I'm also taking in September!
Good luck

This one might help: http://top-law-schools.com/forums/viewt ... l#p3815281
Also, I was in my 30s when I went to law school, so feel free to PM if I can be helpful.

I'm 37 and just graduated. I was not the oldest in my class by a long shot

I'll be 32 the day after my 2L year starts. Good luck. You can do it. There are several older students in my class. One even has 6 kids she has to deal with as a single mother.

Re: Anyone here in their late 30s or 40s?
I'll be 35 when I finish. Was easily the oldest or second oldest in all my 1L courses. It is weird at first, because you're stuck in class with (basically) a bunch of children. Really smart children, who have done impressive things... but children. Gunners will probably be a source of mutual mystery. Just find the older crowd (you won't be the only one) and enjoy them. Just stay focused and don't worry about it.
Also, good luck. That's amazing that you're headed into law school. I wish you were a classmate. Haha.

I was 42 when I applied.
The old school thread has some good info. You might want to peek through the veterans thread, as many of the posters there have a few more years in them than the traditional crowd.

ETA: of course I was scooped by Nony

Hey, congrats on your decision to make another go at it - and kudos to you for making what is probably a really good life choice back then when you did. I'll be 32 when I conclude this endeavor... fun times! Definitely some folks a bunch of years your senior, too, and to the extent I can tell, they get along just fine. I have found that having a few years on K-JD kids is only a positive. From understanding certain basic concepts in classroom discussions that otherwise leave the youngins' like
or
to having faced workplace challenges before and, thus, realizing that x or y bump in the law school road is not the end of the world, perspective and experience really go a long way.
Best of luck!

I am 45 and will be a 1L this fall...unless I get cold feet and decide to take the LSAT again and go through another admission cycle. I believe that there MAY have been 1 or 2 people older than me on ASD (sometimes it's hard to tell with men), but mostly they were 20 somethings, very sharp and frighteningly scary. They had been in the peace corps, community organizers, working as paralegals, and saving women from sex trafficking. A bit intimidating, but I raised a family ("kids" now 19 and 22), worked, volunteered in my community. Anyway, I am excited about the challenge! Just do it.

45 years old and a 1L this fall. I made a visit to my school's registration office and they mentioned that there had been a couple of 60-something students last year. They must have been pretty badass to tackle law school at that age.

Congrats! I am thoroughly enjoying myself, although I definitely notice a difference in how the younger students tend to prefer late nights, while I prefer early morning s for studying. Feel free to PM me if you have questions of an OWL.gbullock19 wrote:37 will be starting law school in August.

Is late 30's or 40's officially URM classification? At 40yo with pre-LS dilemmas, I'd love to contribute.

While it may not be considered a URM status, there are differences.DJDJTX wrote:Is late 30's or 40's officially URM classification? At 40yo with pre-LS dilemmas, I'd love to contribute.
Had a conversation with a classmate who expressed that they were a movie buff, but did not know who Robert Redford was.

Over 40 is a protected class, but not sure about an URM. However, I think it might be helpful for LS apps because the 20 somethings are trying to stand out, and we already do based on life experience and work experience. I do not believe it is particularly helpful for jobs, however.

I will be 42 this year, finishing my BA and applying to law school this cycle. Also a wife and mother. My oldest daughter will be a senior in HS when I start law school.
Hope all of the non-traditional folks are knocking them dead!

Re: Anyone here in their late 30s or 40s?
I'm 38 and applying to law school to start next fall (2019). I have four kids: 12, 9, 6, and 2!
I briefly attended law school in my twenties as well, then took time off to have all my kids. I'm ready to begin again as a 1L. Yay for older students! I'm looking forward to the challenge and hope there are some other older students where I want to attend (UC Davis King Hall).
Feel free to chime in with advice, encouragement, etc.
