URM Fee Waivers
Question to people that have applied in the past, is there a separate wave of fee waivers that go out to URM's or if you aren't getting them should you go ahead and try to solicit them.

Re: URM Fee Waivers
If you are talking about Cornell apparently they are sending additional waivers next week. That was the response I got to my attempt to solicit. I will be posting in the Fee Waivers 2014-2015 thread when I get it. I'm an URM (MA) so it may be that they send a different email to URMs or just that they are sending the fee waivers out in batches for whatever reason.

The idea of a separate URM fee waiver batch is what I was kind of getting at.lc39 wrote:If you are talking about Cornell apparently they are sending additional waivers next week. I don't think they send separate ones for URM's, at least not this early in the cycle.Dream_weaver32 wrote:The idea of a separate URM fee waiver batch is what I was kind of getting at.lc39 wrote:If you are talking about Cornell apparently they are sending additional waivers next week. How does one mention theyre a URM when asking for fee waiver without sounding like your entitled to affirmative action? It just feels weird for me to mention my numbers then be like "yea and im black.."

Yeah, recently I emailed Cooley for a waiver and said, "IM BLACK, COOLEY, VERY PROUD, LIKE A PEACOCK!"
They admitted me on the spot. Worth a try.

Here's a snippet of my email:
Unfortunately, my financial situation combined with the cost of applications has made it difficult for me to afford to apply to as many schools as I would like. Therefore, I am writing to request an application fee waiver based on my strong academic performance. I am a Mexican-American woman with a GPA of 3.7 and I scored 174 on the February administration of the LSAT. I also have work experience at a X firm in X, California. I believe my diversity, experience, and academic credentials make me an ideal candidate for the J.D. program at X, and I am confident that I will make a positive contribution to the class of 2018.

Might want to subscribe to this thread bc I'm sure it'll be updated frequently as waivers come in.
AFAIK, nothing yet but I'm not a Sep taker. I am holding out for the UChi/Columbia wave from this round though.

Re: URM Fee Waivers
thought I'd reply w/ info since I've gained so much from this wonderful forum over the past couple of months. Some fee waivers from the schools mentioned above have been sent out. I've received them from the following T20 schools: Duke, Columbia, Penn, NYU, Georgetown, UChicago. I've received 33 total to date. This is with a 3.73 GPA + 166 Sept LSAT. I'm Af-Am, first generation, LGBT.
Holding out for Stanford - $100 is hefty, and even though I got an LSAC fee waiver after an appeal, they don't waive their fee automatically like some other schools.
Maybe it's too close for comfort, but I appealed my originally denied fee waiver and I ended up getting it. The process took about 10 days from the day they acknowledged it.
Hope this helps

Re: URM Fee Waivers
Anyone want to speculate on when the next batch of fee waivers will come out? Past years seem to say that it'll be this week or next, but I'm a bit nervous about the wait. I've received UVA, UCLA, Duke, Gtown, Mich, and WashU but I'm still looking to apply to Penn, Columbia, Cornell, UChi. I have the apps done and want to get them in, but the money is a big issue. 4.0/164 MA
