Overly optimistic URMs?
Just saw the following post from another thread on this site...is it possible we are being too optimistic re our URM status? no, right?
"Haha oh man I feel you. I'm in a worse spot. I had a 3.61/161 last year and I used my ED at Columbia where I got held and then finally rejected after waiting about seven months. I honestly feel if I had used it at a school like Michigan or Duke I would have been set. I slacked off my whole senior year of college because some TLS posters told me I would get into the T14 because of being a URM and my GPA dropped to 3.49. I ended up getting WL'ed and rejected at five T14's."

He is just the wrong type of URM. If you check the current URM thread and LSN, black applicants are getting in to T14s with his stats.

Yeah, I thought so (re AAs getting in with those stats) I just wanted to make sure. I'm fairly new, so wanted to make sure I wasn't overestimating my chances. (AA/Native American Female 3.5/160-- going to retake in June)

Careful with what? You're being overly senstive. I merely stated that he was the wrong type of URM to assume that large of a boost. Hasn't this been established on this site? Geez, lighten up son.twentypercentmore wrote:Careful with this.dredougpondcumings wrote:He is just the wrong type of URM.

And if that's all you're trying to say, no worries. You can understand, however, seeing as there are an abundance of trolls that seem to materialize whenever affirmative action is mentioned, wording "African-Americans, historically speaking, receive a quantitatively larger boost" as "he wasn't the right kind of URM" (while true), detracts focus a bit.
Apologies, since that's apparently not what you're going for.
