Do adcoms get to know about your family background outside of your personal statement? (Is there any part of the application that asks for profession of parents?
I am curious if having parents in the legal industry would negatively impact a URM admission/boost? Will one be perceived as being well off, even if one is not financially supported by parents and thus given less credit for overcoming adversity?

AFAIK Berkeley is the only school that does this. They have a whole section of the app dedicated to your background, presumably as a replacement for typical AA.pearla wrote:Do adcoms get to know about your family background outside of your personal statement? No where else will know about it unless you or your recommenders tell them. Even if they did I don't think it would impact your app, though.
