Chances for fall 2013 please!
Hi,
I'm currently a graduate student at St. John's University in NYC and will graduate with a MA in Government & Politics. My undergrad overall GPA was a 3.1, while it progressively improved toward my final years. I will finish my MA with a 3.7, though I understand the latter degree's GPA is not considered as heavily. However, with all of that, a 160 LSAT, strong LORs, Mexican-American with Lebanese descent, fluency in 2 other languages, internships with law firms and prominent congressmen, what are my chances of admission to schools in Texas, California and other southern/southwestern state schools?
Any useful info is appreciated, thanks.

Check out these cycles, http://search.lawschoolnumbers.com/user ... Cycle=1112 but keep in mind some are AA and got a bigger bump.
Of course, a retake in Oct could improve your cycle dramatically. I would guess you will get in SMU, UHLC, and Baylor with your current stats. Idk about Cali schools.

Awesome, thanks. I figured that a higher LSAT score would at least increase my chances for a decent school. I'm just not quite sure what other schools to consider in the southern region in terms of having a solid chance of admission. Any suggestions?

Based on 160/3.7 URM (MA), other than SMU, UHLC, Baylor... Florida/FSU, Tulane, Wake Forest/UNC, Georgia, Alabama,W&M/GMU, and ASU/Arizona are all in play. Those schools are all very regional though, so be prepared to settle where ever you attend.diepset4 wrote:Awesome, thanks. Great. Those all sound like very potentially solid schools. I graduate in May '13, but I really want to be an attorney; would you recommend me finish or just drop the MA and start preparing for law school for Fall '13? I think the MA could help as a subjective factor, but who knows.

If I were you, I'd stay the course on the MA. You've probably already put 25k or so down, may as well finish it up. The MA will probably help you a little bit if you ended up gunning for a federal clerkship, and might make a good soft factor in admissions.

2) Get better score
3) Go to UVA/Duke
Other schools in the Southern Region are of dubious value at sticker. Even with a 3.1 if you get your LSAT high enough you should be able to have a shot at those schools.

If OP wants to practice in the south, I wouldn't rule out Vandy. Vandy with money probably beats Duke at sticker.

If you get mid 160s, I'd ED to Duke or UVA. A 170 would seal it at both schools.

Awesome. I will retake it in October and hope for the mid 160s. I am hoping w that score and my resume, I could have a solid chance for those schools y'all suggested. Thanks for all the help!

to all the people saying retake for ED at Duke...based on law school numbers Duke seems to have a soft 3.5 floor, even for urm
