1. That GPA will kill you, YHS are off the table, and T1 probably as well. See LSN/LSP. The good news is that...
2. T14 is not a prereq for politics. See: Rick Santorum.

I'm going to law school.

Is the GPA really that bad? I mean they have dipped into the 2.x's before. But I figured that my mil + private experience would make up for it.

As I said, you are borderline T1 (per LSN/LSP), but due to your strongish softs you are definitely in store for an unpredictable cycle.

Why you wanna go to law school? You already failed life by not getting dat Harvard JD/MBA, see: Willard Romney.

OP seems like a Democrat though. Enjoy Wayne State, bro.

If you're real, your best shot at a T14 is probably to use your mil to build a mens' room in the law school or something.

Law School is no where near a requirement for Congress. Allen West from Florida was elected as a former Army officer. If you want to run for the House for example then go for it. Bronze Star Medal is a good talking point because many don't have it and 99.9% don't realize that it's a gimme medal for certain ranks in the military; only former military folks know that 8)

Goodluck.

I don't want to burst your bubble, but for someone who is optimist, I don't think you have a chance to Yale at all. If I am reading Yale's stats correctly (http://www.law.yale.edu/admissions/profile.htm) then the lowest GPA they admitted was a 3.61. Also, Yale probably has had a couple of candidates with your softs if not better.

Harvard is a numbers game, so I would guess that you have no shot there either. From what I understand, some of the people who don't get into Harvard but do get into Yale are those who just were below the Harvard-number threshold. I could be wrong...and unfortunately I can't find their lowest accepted GPA.

Stanford, which is known on TLS to be GPA hungry, also seems to be out of reach. Their lowest accepted GPA was a 3.2, and this can be found on the penultimate page of the following PDF website: http://www.law.stanford.edu/program/deg ... ewbook.pdf

If you are set on becoming a congressman, you're going to have to go through the rougher route. That means you won't be able to cruise off of a top 3 law school. But then again if you really want to be a congressman, I think this will be a great test to whether or not you really want to become one.

If you are hungry, I think you can do a lot of things. I wish you the best of luck, and I'm glad you served our country!

No. Just no.

Aim lower. Being a URM won't help you this much.

Politicians are not helped by going to prestigious schools; in fact, it may hurt. If your goal is to serve in Congress, as a Representative presumably, then it is best to attend the state law school or a local school in that congressional district.

Unless you managed to go to a state school as an undergrad or whatever else (ie MBA/Master's), then I think you could be right. On the other hand, if you did manage to go to a state school as an undergrad and can then go to YSH Law, then I think that'd be the smarter option.

A PSA at least has a message--"flame" is not a message; it's a phrase that could be vocalized by a Budgerigar. I'm curious whether he has anything more constructive to add; so, I'm questioning both his ability to say something constructive and his overall contribution to the discussion.
