Diversity Statement Topics Help

Post by fashiongirl » Tue Jan 03, 2012 7:11 pm

Hi there -

I'm not a URM however I thought this was the only place I could get advice on DS topics. Looking for some feedback as to which one to use, or should I just forego the DS?

I'm Filipino and Chinese. I'm the first gen american in the family, born and raised here in Cali. I grew up with Filipinos, went to school with Filipinos, and was never exposed to other cultures until I went to college. I went to college at a mostly Caucasian school and it was very hard adjusting. Also, my parents divorced when I was 2, and my mom remarried when I was 9. My stepdad's rules and upbringing were very different from my mother's so my life went from Asian upbringing to Caucasian upbringing. I have 2 younger siblings and my parents forced me to basically raise them (we have a 10 year age gap). I was always mistaken for a teen mom. I'm not sure what the hell to write about or if I should even write one. What do you guys think based on the events in my life?

Any help would be appreciated.
