Chances?

Post by LaCumparsita » Wed Jul 27, 2011 3:44 am

Hey guys! I'm a 170/4.06 from a Top Public, and am a non-URM Hispanic (my mom is from Argentina.) What are my chances at HYSC? I speak Spanish fluently, did a few internships/e.c.s that relate to my heritage, and wrote a DS. Thanks!

You're white (Hispanic), I presume?

You're in at C and have a more than decent shot at YHS (especially S). Congrats.

I'm also confused about my non-URM status because last year, with my first LSAT score of 166, I got fee waivers to NYU, Michigan, Penn, etc. and emails about diversity initiatives... which begs the question, will I get some sort of a boost or not?

Probably not a massive boost, but between an identical WASP male/female and you, you'd get picked.

Ah I see. I've heard that if you have ECs that show a real attachment to your heritage, you are more likely to get a boost. Truth?

From what I understand, this is true. I would say HYSC are all at least worth applying to, and I wish you the best of luck in your cycle.

I want to submit a 250-word version of my DS for my Yale 250 since I hear that Yale doesn't ask for additional info. Thoughts?

OP, estoy casi seguro que te vas a mover a New Haven o a Palo Alto.

With that GPA, I honestly think you have at least a decent shot at both (especially Stanford, they LOVE high GPA's). Just write a really strong diversity statement about your culture/background, a compelling personal statement about why law (and have people you trust help you with structure/grammar), and get some good letters of rec.

Awesome thanks!

Also, some applications ask what your native language is... I spoke Spanish until I was 5, but now I mainly speak English. Should I list Spanish or English as my native language? Thanks!
