GPA: 3.92, LSAT: 169, AA Male

Post by lsh531 » Thu Jun 30, 2011 5:01 pm

Hello! Thank you for taking the time to look at, and hopefully answer, my post. I already posted this in the "What are my chances?" forum but thought I would repost it here as well. I am looking at applying to law schools (including several top 14 institutions) this fall with an eye on attending in Fall 2012. Like most other people, I am spending my summer worrying what my chances are and what schools I should focus on.

I am a URM (AA male). Took the LSAT for the first time in June 2011 and got a 169. Attended a top 50 university for undergrad (with two semesters at a top 25 school), graduated early with a 3.92 GPA. Phi Beta Kappa, Phi Kappa Phi. Grew up overseas.

I appreciate any and all responses! Thanks!

I had a friend, AA female, with a 168 and a pretty high GPA (don't know exactly, can't be too much better than yours) who got into Harvard, Stanford, and Yale and got a full ride to Chicago.

You should be alright.

You have a great shot everywhere as far as numbers go. It takes more than numbers for YS but they are definitely worth the app. At a lot of schools you would be a candidate for some hefty scholarships so I'd apply to the entire t14.

You are going to have a slam dunk of a cycle. I personally know two AA males with similar numbers to you (3.88/165 and 3.81/170) and are attending HLS and YLS respectively. Submit your applications before Thanksgiving and congrats!

Hey,

You have a great shot at any law school you apply to. Definitely apply to all T14 and make sure to get your apps in early. Also, have a solid personal statement. Good luck and enjoy the process.

In anywhere you apply, obviously. Yale can be slightly unpredictable but you are more likely than not to be accepted there.

I can only hope that I'll have to make a decision like that. Thanks for your responses!
