Chance (AA Male)
Never posted before, but I just received an LSAT score and was curious what you guys thought.
GPA: 3.74
LSAT: 165
UG: HYP (still in ug)
Right now I'm only curious about my chances for HYSC.
Any thoughts? Should I just retake in October?
Thanks so much guys

We are somewhat similar, check out my lsn (links in profile) and expect to have at least my results and almost guaranteed better ones with your numbers.

I'm not sure you know the meaning of "somewhat" considering OP has several LSAT points and a huge GPA chunk on you.miracle2011 wrote:We are somewhat similar

Especially considering schools tend to overlook URM LSAT more than URM GPA. OP is decent shape at virtually every school in the country (though HYS are all probably longshotish)bk187 wrote:I'm not sure you know the meaning of "somewhat" considering OP has several LSAT points and a huge GPA chunk on you.miracle2011 wrote:We are somewhat similar

I guess you missed the part about us both being AA males with HYP undergrad. Your rudeness is neither justified nor constructive.bk187 wrote:I'm not sure you know the meaning of "somewhat" considering OP has several LSAT points and a huge GPA chunk on you.miracle2011 wrote:We are somewhat similar

In with full rides at every school other than HYS.
In at Harvard.
Almost certainly in at one of YS, probably both.

Using LSN, almost certainly out at Yale. When they dipped into sub 170 LSATs this yr for URMs, it was only ones with 3.9+futurelawstudent1 wrote:In with full rides at every school other than HYS.

Harvard did admit some with similar and slightly worse numbers, but they also rejected or WL more with similar and slightly better numbers.

Stanford is similar

Using just LSN, I'd say very small shot at yale and 50/50 at one of H or S. Correct on admittance with $$ at most other schools.

You act as if that's a rare occurrence. In fact, virtually all black students at HYS scored well below 170 on the LSAT. (Bear in mind that the proportion of black students who score above 170 is far smaller than the proportion of non-URM students who earn 180s.)splitmuch wrote:

The OP does not have a "very small shot" at Yale. He has a very good one there and at Stanford. Harvard is essentially a lock (especially if his undergrad is Harvard).

Thanks guys for the advice. I'm really not sure what to glean from LSN. I see quite a few URMs with similar and slightly higher numbers than mine who had pretty bad cycles and I see others with lower numbers who did great. Seems really random.
@ miracle: thank you for sharing your cycle. thats really inspirational. good for you.

How hard did you prepare? If you put in a lot of effort, at this point with those numbers you have a pretty good law school future so I would say there's no harm in not retaking. However, if you didn't prep hard I think it's worth seeing how much better you can do (you might be able to hit 170, e.g., and then I think you'd be in at Yale).

Re: Chance (AA Male)
@blsing: I had ~25 days between my last school asignment and my LSAT. In that time I guess I spent about 60 hours or so studying (online class) and took several PTs (about 6 or 7). My range never fell outside 166-168. Given that, I guess my score is pretty representative of the work I put in during my study period. I don't exactly know when I'll be able to devote much more time to the test than what I did last month, but I do recognize that to get a considerably higher score I should probably look to put in about 2 or 3 months of studying.
Right now I'm leaning toward a retake FWIW.
