50% at Notre Dame or Michigan at sticker?
I'm shooting for big law. Impressed with Michigan's prestige but is it worth the debt?

Michigan sends about 50% of their grads to biglaw right now and Notre Dame send much much less. I'd guess like 15%, though not sure if that's right. The answer is clear if you're shooting for biglaw.KG89 wrote:I'm shooting for big law. Impressed with Michigan's prestige but is it worth the debt?

If you pay full sticker price at Michigan, then you will need biglaw; but if you attend Notre Dame with a 50% scholarship, then other career options become viable.

From my understanding, Notre Dame will most likely confine you to the midwest.
Also, the cultures of each school (other than college football) are very different

What's your point? It'd better be a good one to convince me you're not trolling.lolschool2011 wrote:"The University of Notre Dame is an independent, national Catholic university located in Notre Dame, Ind."vanwinkle wrote:WTF?lolschool2011 wrote:Potentiallly egregious Anti-Catholicism trolling.KG89 wrote:I'm shooting for big law. If your goal is Biglaw go with Michigan, any T14 really, over ND.

What does my question have to do with Anti-Catholicism???lolschool2011 wrote:Potentiallly egregious Anti-Catholicism trolling.KG89 wrote:I'm shooting for big law. Impressed with Michigan's prestige but is it worth the debt?
However, I do think it might be more helpful for me to rephrase the question: Is my quality of life expected to be better coming out of Michigan $200,000 in debt with BigLaw, or would I be better off coming out of ND with half the debt but less employment opportunities? While the BigLaw salary is certainly enticing, how much is it really worth under and extra $100,000 in debt? How many years (with current interest rates in mind) do you guys think it would take for me to pay that off?
Appreciate the feedback!

i voted Michigan so that you can bow out via withdrawal at Notre Dame and I can get accepted in your absence.. better for your biglaw aspirations anyway! win-win? yes.

Careful, though. 50% scholly at ND will still cost OP ~$110k. (61k tuition + 51K other).CanadianWolf wrote:If you pay full sticker price at Michigan, then you will need biglaw; but if you attend Notre Dame with a 50% scholarship, then other career options become viable.
Sorry, UM is $7k more per year. My fault. Point stands though.

If you get BigLaw out of ND, the extra 100,000 for Michigan is not worth it. If you don't, it is.KG89 wrote:What does my question have to do with Anti-Catholicism???lolschool2011 wrote:Potentiallly egregious Anti-Catholicism trolling.KG89 wrote:I'm shooting for big law. to be more specific, no one can say because this has to do with chances - you can come out of ND with less debt, but if you don't get a job you want you'll probably wish you went to Michigan. no one knows how much the extra 100,000 is worth because you haven't even gone to LS yet, much less graduated

Protip: this scenario slants heavily towards Michigan as a result of what you just said.paulinaporizkova wrote:If you get BigLaw out of ND, the extra 100,000 for Michigan is not worth it. Both campuses also resemble Hogwartz, Michigan moreso though.
