LGBT/3.99GPA/156 LSAT

Post by legallyb » Sun Dec 26, 2010 7:18 pm

What level schools do you think I would have the best chance at getting into? I also took the December LSAT and believe I did better in all honesty. So far the top two I have applied to are St. John's and Washington and Lee. Any other schools I should consider with the above criteria met?

Retake. A 160 would do wonders for you.

LGBT does not affect your cycle there is no gay boost. However, if you feel you did better on your LSAT, apply higher, maybe you'll get lucky and pull down a 16+

I think I could have easily pulled a 160+ in December. Hopefully I will know soon. Thanks!

The only LGBT boost you'll get is if you can write a cogent PS/DS. Even then, it's probably minimal. Otherwise, your cycle will more or less follow LSP. Best of luck.

Honestly, with that stellar GPA I'd consider retaking February if you don't break 160 by a decent margin. Lots of prep and a good testing day could easily get you into the T20.

Adam,

Thanks for the advice. I'll let you know how I did when I find out.

I agree with all of the above. If you think being LGBT will get you any kind of legitimate URM status as far as law schools are concerned, you're wrong. What it can give you is a very interesting platform for a unique PS which may sway things in your favor in the end. But make sure you write about being LGBT in the context of "means to an end" rather than "end" in itself. Like, how, specifically, has being a member of the gay community caused your outlook to change? Have you done any LGBT-specific work or volunteering? Has this affected what you'd like to study in law school? etc etc.

And yes, like others on here have said, please retake the LSAT. Even if you got a 166-168 you would have an excellent chance at a good chunk of the t14 with that GPA and scholarship money at lower ranked schools

Thanks for letting me know. I didn't think it counted as an URM, but I was just asking as I saw it listed on the URM forum topics. I did put it into my PS and I think it was well put together. I had my professor, the chair of our department and one of my recommendations, read over and edit it and we put together a good essay I believe. Also, I plan on applying to some higher ranked schools assuming I did well on the LSAT. I thought personally I had done better, but then everyone on here was freaking out, so I really have no idea how I did until the scores come out... soon hopefully!

Hey, guys. Update: I got a 161! Not amazing, but a big improvement for me. :)
