I just took the LSAT for the second time last week. I'm assuming I'm hovering around 150 but more likely 149. I'm a 28 y/o African American female. Didn't start college until 2005, took me 5 years to complete, graduated 12/2009. I went to school fulltime and worked fulltime during the 5 years. I graduated from Howard University with a 3.3 but transferred a lot. So I'm not sure what overrall gpa is yet. I'm still gathering all of the transcripts. But I pretty much got all A's and B's in those schools. I'm very interested in American University. Mainly because of their international programs. I currently work for the federal gov't doing criminal intelligence work, mainly dealing with Human Trafficking. This is my passion and has taking me years of trying to figure out. I started off working in IT straight out of high school, took a Cisco Networking course while in high school, which is why it took me a while to go back to school. The money was too good!!!
Now for the score. I plan to write an addendum. I was scoring around 155 on practice tests in Sept but then decided to hold off on taking LSAT because I just kept doing better and better. So december was the latest for me. Then my best friend had her baby, doc screwed up, and now she's severly brain damaged lying in a vegetative state in the hospital. Its been a mess. Its been 2 months since it started and the hospital has been my second home lately. Now with that said what do you think my chances are of getting in? BTW I had to take the LSAT now because I'm not getting any younger and I need to get in fall 2011. I'm applying to the part time program and since its 4 years and not the traditional 3 years I need to go ASAP.

Waiting a year will probably not significantly alter your life, although acquiring 100k of debt will. Consider a retake and shoot for big $, IMO.

Thanks for the suggestion. I was thinking if I don't get in I can just go somewhere else local and then try to transfer. I'm a transfer queen.
Also a friend of mine really wants to introduce me to Admissions Director there. I'm hesitant on if that's a good idea but this person says they are good friends and he wants to do it for me. Anyone have any opinion on if I should do this?

Not sure what the TLS dogma is in cases like this, but I would pump the connections for everything you think they are worth. Although, I would also really considering reatking as $$ and FT from American would be possible for you if you could get low 160s.mimi82 wrote:Thanks for the suggestion. Whats odd is that i don't expect to get money. I would LOVE that but its not my end all on deciding which school to go to. I mean going to American is the end all for me. There program is exactly what I'm looking for. There human rights clinic, and to try to be accepted to the program that allows me to get a law degree in europe at the same time is the appealing part for me. Also I don't see myself doing FT. I work fulltime and love my work. Even if I got a full scholarship to attend fulltime I couldn't quit my job. Especially in this economy and the way lawyers are out of work these days, I wouldn't dream of quiting my job to go to school fulltime when I can go PT. To me its not logical.

Do not count on being able to transfer up. Only attend a school you genuinely believe you will be happy at.mimi82 wrote:Thanks for the suggestion. I was thinking if I don't get in I can just go somewhere else local and then try to transfer. I'm a transfer queen.![]()

I would say schedule a visit of the school in conjunction with meeting the dean. If anything it will support the idea that you are really interested in going to that school and could help your app.

Thanks for the advice. I guess I'll be taking that friend up on that meeting then. My cousin's wife teaches some law classes up there too and she wanted to take me up there as well. I think I got some good letters of recommendation. One being from one of Condoleezza Rice's previous speechwriters and the other is a lawyer and the Deputy Director of a Civil Rights office w/in the gov't. No professors because I didn't really know them. I just went to class and then went home...didn't really make friends. I'm going to have to pull out all the favors on this. geez!!!
