CLEO 2011?
Is anyone applying to the CLEO joint in the summer? Has anybody done it before and would like to share experiences? I went to Undergrad in DC and participated in one CLEO event, but that was like in 2008. I am thinking about sending out my app soon, but I am not sure if it's worth it.

Can't comment on the program, but lol @ "joint." I know a lot of Philly folks that say "jawn."
Brought back some memories. lol

Lol, I am from Baltimore, I think I picked it up from going to school in DC they say jawn or joint. At any rate Baltimore is like the Philly of the "south."LAWLAW09 wrote:Can't comment on the program, but lol @ "joint." I know a lot of Philly folks that say "jawn."

Re: CLEO 2011?
sounds about right...
Friends used to be like "What's a jawn?" Response: "Jawn is (almost) anything you want it to be.
"Pass me that jawn."
"I just met this bad jawn."
"Last time I was at that jawn, I had fun."
Aight. I'm done. lol

In DC, we definitely say joint.JeanGrey wrote:Is anyone applying to the CLEO joint in the summer? Has anybody done it before and would like to share experiences? I'd like to do CLEO but I'm not sure if it's worth throwing down $2000 sticker price for it. I'm working full-time so I doubt they'd give me a scholarship. I'd be interested to hear from others that have attended in the past.

Re: CLEO 2011?
I did the ASAP seminar July of this year, and applied for the 2011 Six Week Summer Institute on Oct 6. They got all my follow up stuff on Oct 22. Then I got an email that Mrs. Williams, the program coordinator, wanted to discuss my application. We chatted, and she seemed to want to know if I was going to re-take the LSAT, why I applied to just 2 schools, and other stuff like that. The talk went well, I think. And she was very nice, and direct with her questions. Anyone know if this call is a good/bad omen?
I asked her if they'd be sending out acceptances in January, and she said the early applicants should hear back "much sooner than that."
Anyway, I wonder where they're gonna hold the events this year. Hopefully some places in the San Diego/Miami realm, and not Pittsburgh/Carbondale, IL.
Anyone else already applied or heard anything?

I received this same email as well, I had my interview on Friday.
I asked the same questions about when acceptances would be released, she told me "within the next few weeks". She apparently interviews only all the early applicants, but didnt give me any clues as to the size of the early applicant pool. She didnt ask "why LS", only had Qs about my LSAT performance.

Re: CLEO 2011?
She asked about my LSAT performance too. She kept asking if I had Qs for her, and beyond asking what materials we learn from (provided by the school staff) I couldn't think of one till we hung up.
How do schools go about nominating us? I am complete at a member school and a supporting school, so I guess CLEO sends something to them saying we applied to SSI and they reply to CLEO? Anyway, that was my big question for her that I missed out on asking.
Glad you got to chat with her too! I was kinda scared because people have described her as being really tough ("tough love") but she seemed very kind, and direct.
Hope to see you this summer!

Apply early!
Drake University Law School
Des Moines, Iowa
June 5 – July 15, 2010
Thomas Jefferson School of Law
San Diego, CA
June 5 – July 15, 2010

So maybe those are the locations for this year? I'm guessing they just forgot to change the dates. Sounds silly, but I hope if I get in, I can head to Iowa. I can get a MegaBus ticket from Chi-town for $3 both ways. Oh yeah!

I guess I am the slacker,
I applied and sent my stuff in today. I went to school in DC and I met Ms. Williams before she's a card, but I instantly fell in love with her. Hopefully I'll be able to hear from them soon.

Anybody heard anything back yet? Or any more interviews with Mrs. Williams?
Trying to plan my summer here and this would be a pretty big chunk of it.

Re: CLEO 2011?
Is there any way to determine which location you'd go to? I know law school prep is the focus but I don't think I could spend 2G's for 6weeks in Iowa

Re: CLEO 2011?
For ASAP, they asked me which location (Atlanta or Los Angeles) and I requested LA. I think if you get in earlier, they will let you choose. It's the ones who are admitted real late that pretty much get stuck wherever they need to fill spots.

Talked to Mrs. Williams today. It was an interesting and informative chat. She was direct, but very motivating. Gave me a lot of insight on my personal statement. One of those people you talk to and instantly feel their warmth and support.

Has anyone heard back from CLEO yet? I think I may have been accepted, based on the questions I was asked during my phone call.

I was asked if I was accepted to any schools yet and how many did I apply to. I was told I would be contacted by phone soon.

Was that the first time you talked with them?

Yes it was the first time I spoke with them. Was everyone told to call in between a certain time last week?

Re: CLEO 2011?
Told me to call between a certain time too, but that was back in early November. Got an email on Tuesday to clarify my address as they "had some correspondence to send me." Got my first school acceptance on Monday, so maybe they were holding my app until I got admitted somewhere?
Looks like they sent out first acceptances via email last year in mid-January, but when I asked Mrs. Williams if the acceptances would be in January, she said, "for the earlies, we'll send them out way sooner." I'll let y'all know what the letter says when I get it.
