Tell me what to do. Is BC worth the sticker?

Any reason why I shouldn't take prestige (BC) over money (SC) or vice-versa?

Go to USC and shoot for a great job in Charlotte. You could also look at transferring to Vandy after 1 year

Do you want to work in South Carolina? You'll be stuck in either Columbia or Greenville (if you're LUCKY) for the next ten years. The legal market in South Carolina is horrific, and I don't think I could take living in one of the rural portions of the state for 10 more minutes, let alone years.

Neither of these are realistic "plans" out of the University of South Carolina.shawshank wrote:Go to USC and shoot for a great job in Charlotte. You could also look at transferring to Vandy after 1 year
Edit: In Charlotte, you'll be competing with the few Duke grads who self-select there, pretty much all of UNC's graduating class, Wake Forest's class, and even kids from Elon/Campbell (which enjoy a surprisingly decent reputation in-state). It's not a stretch to say that some UVA kids will fill Charlotte slots, as well as W&L and W&M students.
That's not a very big legal market and a ton of competition for those slots. As a USC student, you won't have the time to network with those in Charlotte who can give you non-biglaw jobs.
If you are going to USC, you better plan on living/practicing in South Carolina. I guess there are worse things in the world.

lol I did a double-take on your avatar. Vandy transfer is a must so I can have the opportunity to throw things at our former MT coach in class.shawshank wrote:Go to USC and shoot for a great job in Charlotte. You could also look at transferring to Vandy after 1 year

Where are you getting your info from? 70-80% of USC's graduates take the NC Bar and the same percentage seek and often find, employment in NC (primarily Charlotte).Ty Webb wrote:Neither of these are realistic "plans" out of the University of South Carolina.shawshank wrote:Go to USC and shoot for a great job in Charlotte. Not ITE and especially not ITE in Charlotte.lfgsuperman wrote:Where are you getting your info from? 70-80% of USC's graduates take the NC Bar and the same percentage seek and often find, employment in NC (primarily Charlotte).
A transfer is possible if you are top 3%, so not likely.

I'm from South Carolina. I have a sister and brother-in-law who work in Charlotte (one as an attorney).lfgsuperman wrote:

vs. my 4 relatives who are attorneys in Charlotte + 2 family friends who are alumni of USC Law and who practice at “Big Law" in Charlotte + 1 family friend who is a judge in Charlotte (also an alumni of USC Law) + the fact that they all have been practicing in Charlotte for an average of 14(+) years + the fact that they tell me other wise + my own contacts for future jobs = a grand total of you loose I win.Ty Webb wrote:I'm from South Carolina. I "loose", huh?
I don't think BigLaw is going to be one of your options regardless of school choice, TBQH.
But I can't iterate enough how wrong you are in thinking that 80% of USC students seek and find employment in NC. This just patently untrue. More like 8%.

BC all the way. Send your deposit to USC but ride that WL out.
