Half Black Half Alaskan

Post by shane0515 » Fri Apr 16, 2010 11:39 pm

Hey guys,

I'm half black and half alaskan but I was raised by my black mother. I don't know my dad at all because he left when I was younger. I've always identified as black but I was wondering if I could legally put alaskan when applying for schools. I have no proof or ID that I'm alaskan besides the way I look. I always but just black before when applying to schools.

Wow. You're like the Bionic URM. Made up of parts of lesser URMs.

You could check black on the application, then explain your Inuit roots in a separate diversity statement.

I'm not entirely sure how the tribal thing works. I mean, you've certainly got enough "blood" but I don't know if they ask for tribal cards etc. You're probably safe but I would ask the schools you are interested in applying to directly.

Also, that's an awesome mix.

I'm actually working to get in on merit. I have a 3.67 gpa and I'm averaging a 165-168 on LSAT practice tests. I was just wondering if that would give me a boost?
