I'm not very optimistic of my chances at any of these schools save one.. but here goes

URM - AA male
LSAT - 167
LSDAS GPA - 2.97, large public university, Biology major (liberal usage of grade forgiveness in undergrad.. :( )
Currently enrolled in a small private university working on a MS in Finance - 3.8 gpa
Previously enrolled in large public university for a semester for a graduate program where I only received a 1.2 gpa

Applied to:

Harvard
Columbia
Chicago
Duke
Vanderbilt
Emory
Stetson

Just got a notice that I was wait-listed at Vanderbilt.

You should have applied to more safety schools. That GPA will probably hold you back from HCC and maybe D.

Good luck, though <3

Thanks! Before taking the LSAT I really didn't know much about the general law market and how important it was for me to aim as high as possible.. (otherwise I would have taken a course to boost my lsat a bit more). Plus I'm married and just had a little one, so I figured if I am going to ask my wife to move.. I need to make sure that it's definitely for a school that's worth while.

Hope my recklessness doesn't kick my butt too much

Did you apply late or something? Didn't take your PS seriously? I think with your numbers, you should have been in at higher-ranked schools than those you have listed

Have you considered retaking and breaking 170? It would do a lot for your chances!!

It creeps into my mind from time to time, would give me a better cushion with the BIG law market too.. Really depends on what I hear back this cycle, and how my wife is doing in her job and her opportunities.

I applied to most of them in mid-November. G'town, Wake Forest & NYU in mid-December. I didn't hear back from Columbia until 2 weeks ago. I was a double-major (Communication & Sociology)

I don't post here that often, but I've been a long time lurker. This board was a valuable resource when I was applying, so I thought I'd try to contribute/help others in some way. Feel free to PM me if you have any questions about my cycle, the process, etc.

Stats:
AA Male
GPA: 3.86
LSAT: 164
Undergrad: Ivy
W/E: 3 years work experience

IN
Harvard
Columbia
Cornell

OUT
Yale
Stanford

WAITLISTED
Penn (Withdrew)

citydweller09 wrote:Just adding info to this thread for posterity. My cycle went pretty much the way people predicted in my "chances" threads, so it turns out people on TLS are pretty well-informed! One caveat: As a URM, ignore anyone who tells you to plug your numbers into Law School Predictor to gauge your chances at schools. It was wildly inaccurate for my cycle, and if I'd been foolish enough to follow it I would've cheated myself out of some wonderful opportunities. That said, here's how it went:

Stats
AA Female
GPA: 3.4
LSAT: 168
Undergrad: HYP
Graduate degree from an Ivy
WE: 1 year (by the time I start law school)

IN
Harvard
Stanford
Columbia
NYU
UChicago
UMichigan
UPenn
Georgetown

OUT
Yale

WAITLISTED
UVA (withdrew)

WITHDREW BEFORE DECISION
Duke (I was UR for about 4 months with not a peep from them. I was probably headed for a WL, but opted to withdraw before receiving a decision from them.)

And that's it! Hopefully my info will help out future applicants. I've definitely found TLS really informative throughout this process. Good luck to everyone!

Congrats on an amazing cycle!! Not too many people pull off Harvard & Stanford.

Thanks! I really expected Columbia to be a ding. I just applied because I got a fee waiver from the school (probably because I got one from LSAC). It just goes to show you that, when applying to school, you should always aim high. It also proves that devoting significant time to your application (ie-Personal Statement, Diversity Statement, Addendi) is imperative and can make all the difference for one's cycle.

Best of luck to everyone!

So are you going to take the full-ride or $$ schools over the higher ranked schools or what's happening? I'm actually interested in your cycle.

I'm going to UGA unless Emory takes me off the waitlist. I'll probably still go to Georgia since the in state tuition is so affordable. I live in Atlanta and I would love to work here. Both are good regional schools.
