Congrats! I think AA men get the biggest boost since they are so underrepresented in law school.lnsl123 wrote:Thanks! And agree about AA women. Do you think that's typical though? I feel like there are more AA women than AA men applying and at law school. Like 2:1 at some places.Hi-So - ArshavinFan wrote:So happy for you man!!!!!!lnsl123 wrote:Just got acceptance email from Columbia. In shock.
On the other hand - AA men seem to be doing a little better than AA women this cycle - again this is based on what im seeing in this forum.

+1! I heard they are interviewing the people they're interested in apparently so reserve isn't an end all. I believe on the Cornell thread someone said they were admitted off reserve this week.chasima wrote:If it makes you feel better, I was put on reserve for cornell in the first round and received an invitation to interview in person a few weeks ago. They also sent out an additional mass e-mail to people on reserve about requesting interviews, but I have a feeling that the "reserve" list this year is not a traditional waitlist, and you may get the opportunity to speak to someone in person if you are really interested in getting accepted. I do not know for sure, though, just speculating!lnsl123 wrote:Same.sfn91 wrote:I got put on reserve for Cornell. First "decision" of the cycle - eek.
And for fellow URM - the new dean is hispanic, a yale/cornell grad, and really awesome. I was lucky enough to speak to him on the phone and he mentioned that Cornell is now actually a majority minority school - a good sign for those worried about diversity!

I'm one of them. I'm in at NYU, Columbia, Penn, Berkeley, Duke, UVA($$), Mich Georgetown, UCLA, and GW and am below both 25ths. WL at Cornell and Chi. I know my WE was a key factor. There's hope guys! I used to scour this site and was convinced that I wasn't going to get into law school, until another AA sat me down and told me about her cycle. She ended up at Columbia with a 3.3, 161. I think it takes a bit longer for us to get decisions. I think the only reason I've heard back from most of my schools is because I applied in October.Hi-So - ArshavinFan wrote:I dont think so.PrezRand wrote:It's already Feb and it doesn't seem like the URM cycle is going well.
I think theyre a couple of URM's that have gotten into places, but are not posting their info on this site.
I know of some myself and I talked to brininicole about 1 of them in a PM.
It is aggravating, but that is life.

I assume you remember her reaction to USC. CLS was better but she was confused at first — "where's that?" As a Chicagoan, she still associates "Columbia" with Columbia College in Chicago.

I think grade trends, undergrad institution, resume, and personal narrative can be especially helpful for URMs, since most of us are battling for spots w/ below-median numbers for the T14. Our numbers usually won't differentiate us, so the rest of our application takes on even greater significance.

congrats! agreed on the importance of the application. TLS downplays it but I think for URMs everything matters. Best advice I got on this website is that since my numbers aren't 1%, everything else about my app needs to be.

In at Berkeley/Michigan/Duke/UT-Austin/USC + several 20-30 schools.
Also, interviewed with Cornell/Columbia/Harvard
WL: Cornell/Georgetown
Reject: Penn
Still waiting on the T6, but overall I would say that I outperformed my numbers considering my low LSAC GPA. While I'd love HYS, I would happily go back to Berkeley for another 3 years.

Yea that's great advice. I think taking advantage of writing a DS to highlight more aspects about one's background can also be very helpful (I felt my DS was better than my PS tbh)
Congrats to you too! I think I'll end up at Stanford : )

Haha when did you apply to most schools? Wash U offered a full ride, which I was definitely not expecting, but I don't think I'd turn down a T6 for it. At Wash U I'd have very little debt but I also think it'd be a lot harder to reach my career goalsbunney_j wrote:Lol we're very similar - Latina, 3.8,165. Maybe this is too much, but can we get the mods to create a thread dedicated solely to acceptances? It's hard to just search through and the spreadsheets dont have fields for softs and Extracurricular s.
Is this possible?

EDIT: I applied around thanksgiving and have heard from 12/14 schools I applied to, not including Illinois whose app I withdrew. I have only heard from Michigan, UVA, and BU about scholarship info though. So, as self-centered as this is, my cycle is going fine.

I also feel like my cycle is going decently. Definitely came into this with really low stats but a fire application and it has been working out better than I expected!
