Re: URM 2015-2016 Cycle Thread
Hello everyone,
Long time TLS Lurker. I feel terrible, Since I got back on TLS (left after my initial cycle that I did right after UG in 11-12) I have completely neglected the URM boards
I kind of forgot about them. Ive been loving some of the advice I have gotten in just a few days.
I have a question for you guys out there about possibly sitting out one more year.
I am currently a deputy court clerk for my county's courthouse. I took the job after getting advice from many attorneys and a few judges that were family friends. I am in line to get a "promotion" to become a minute clerk for a judge. I am considering the job because I feel like my late applications could hurt me (along with my horrid GPA).
I got most of my applications out in Jan. Does applying early really help>? I see it all over these boards, just wondering what you guys think.
Thinking about taking the job and sitting for June's test.
Stats
GPA: sub 2.6 (decent addendum for this)
LSAT: 167
Not looking for much love from T14 unless I retake and break the 170s.. Then where should I look other than NW?
Number 1 choice this cycle is UT-Austin
Thanks in advance.

Re: URM 2015-2016 Cycle Thread
It's not so much that applying early helps as it is that applying late hurts since so much of the class has already been formed by late January/February. Looking on myLSN admissions graphs, there's a pretty definitive trend of people not performing as well as they otherwise would when applying late in the cycle. As for the test, I'm always of the opinion that if you think you can do better, you should retake. And with your GPA, every point helps. An extra year of relevant work experience certainly won't hurt either. You've already applied so I'd just ride out the cycle and see what happens but keeping next cycle in mind as a possibility certainly gives you more options.sneijder wrote:Hello everyone,

I'm not well-versed in the ins and outs of splitter cycles but I'm sure someone else will have insights as to splitter-friendly T14s.

I'm +1000 on everything gamerish has written here. If you can nudge it over 170, I give you a fighting chance at schools like UVA, Northwestern, and maybe Michigan. Also, UT might jump at the chance to snag a 170+ from you.gamerish wrote:It's not so much that applying early helps as it is that applying late hurts since so much of the class has already been formed by late January/February. You're going to need a killer GPA addendum. How much time/effort did you put into putting it together this time?

I put a decent amount of time into my addendum. But I dont know how much it could help.
I do have really strong LOR and equally strong WE ( In my opinion). Looking back, I really wish I could have pulled out those 3+ points lol
Im already in at some t2 with hefty $$$ offers. So I have some things to think about. A chance at NW, UVA and good money at UT is something to buckle down and work hard for.

A word of caution about the addendum: be sure it isn't too long. The advice from consultants and adcomms themselves that I've seen has been pretty universal in that they all agree it shouldn't be more than a few sentences.sneijder wrote:Thanks for your responses guys!fliptrip wrote:I'm +1000 on everything gamerish has written here. Congrats to all of the recent admits.
I was recently accepted @ UVA and I am figuring things out to be able to come for ASW. Would love to meet some of you there and if I'm unable to attend I'll certainly be in contact for the details!

Welcome! Why don't you pull up a chair and stay awhile? We are very nice in here.ih8makingscreennames wrote:I searched a question on law school and ended up lurking here. I wanted to say thanks for all of the valuable info! I've had a pretty good cycle thus far. I'm probably going to attend Columbia (top choice right now) and Penn's ASWs. I'm also attending a Brunch for NYU but may not make it to their weekend. I feel like the ones I would need to actually attend are from schools I have yet to hear from (Mich, NW).
Anyways, congrats to all of you, and best wishes for the waiters!
