Yeah, it sucks, but that is what low numbers do to you. If I pull anyone of my top choice schools, everyone will be in amazement that I got it with my numbers lol.AAJD2B wrote:Hope something comes around for you, including W&M.BankruptMe wrote:All my good apps(30-60 USNWR) are in a holding pattern until people decide what they are going to do. Im 95% Sure, So i probably will not know until May.
I talked to an admissions officer and they told me they looked over my application "but no final decision has been made" means they scanned it and was like ehhhhh its ok, but let's see what else happens. I am not formally waitlisted, but im not rejected.
So I have to wait. If anyone has a school they 100% do not want to go to...you know what to do. And I am not saying anything I have not done myself lol.

I'm too serious! And the imbalance of male to female was quite noticeable as well. But, hey, they all had cute southern accents and said things like "bow tie or no tie" so I can't be too mad.AAJD2B wrote:Stop playing!okaygo wrote:Lol, well you know where I want you to go! But in all seriousness I'm hoping that the people of color just couldn't make it to the ASW. No way I could be the only URM 1L.

I was in that boat at first, but now I'm starting to realize just how lucky I was to not only get accepted to my top choices, but to also receive substantial scholarships..calle_25 wrote:Me neither. Re: URM 2013-2014 Cycle Thread
Hey everyone. I am an occasional lurker finally checking in, and I am legitimately stuck with a tough decision. This is my third application cycle, and I FINALLY gained admission into my top program. This is a smaller program, and scholarships/grants have already been awarded, tuition deposits have been submitted and the class is set for the most part. I was initially offered $0, and the thought of paying lower T-14 sticker was disheartening. Since aid is supposedly need/merit based, I made a genuine case for need in addition to including an anecdote about how I could authentically enhance the diversity of the class. I was given an extension as they "reconsidered." I was then told that I would still receive $0, even though per observation of said small class forum, everyone that participates in the forum received a substantial scholarship or an increase, including students with GPAs far below mine. That said, I ceased communication with the people that have been my points of contact (and who have been very unhelpful) and I reached out to the Dean of Admissions in addition to a few other admins. There has been radio silence, and I feel like I need a last "Hail Mary" before my deposit is due within the coming days. Is anyone experiencing the dilemma of paying sticker to their top program? Any thoughts on last minute negotiation? I am already having second thoughts about the institution as a whole given my communication, and I honestly don't feel as I would be a valuable member knowing that my non-urm classmates are enjoying the benefits of a highly discounted tuition , when I have made diligent efforts to simply have this particular administration hear my concerns....to put this into further context, my class size will be around ~30, and traditionally, there has been one black person/class.

^^^
Have you tried using slightly lower school's as scholarship negotiating leverage? To negotiate, you do need to have and use leverage. I'm hoping you didn't blanket T-14.
Also, are you really T14/biglaw or bust? If this is your third cycle, I'm assuming you may not want to wait again, so I'm asking, what are your goals? Have you considered taking a T14-20 on scholarship. If you can get in higher, you should be able to get a significant scholarship from one of those, and especially if it's Texas/UCLA/Vandy, then depending on your goals, those are probably better options that T14 at sticker.
Just my 2 cents.

Cali love, it sounds like NU's AJD program. If so, I do not believe it's worth sticker price to attend. And if they are treating you in such regard, maybe you should trust your gut on this one. Do you have a backup plan? I concur with El Principe's suggestion.

Re: URM 2013-2014 Cycle Thread
Thank you for the feedback, and pardon me as I try to figure out how to navigate TLS.....I didn't apply to many programs, and all of the schools that I have applied to are T-14 with the exception of one (I ended up withdrawing from UCLA), and I have not received a response from most of these schools, meaning I have no leverage. Given the short deposit deadline and summer start, I will have to make a decision with a few pending admissions decisions. I was/am set on this particular program, and I am definitely biglaw or bust (this small program places really well). I have been out of school for seven years, and I have strong ties to New York, Washington, DC and Los Angeles. I hope to go into biglaw in NYC for at least four years before moving on to other endeavors. I am at age now where I pursue this, or I look for another career path.El Principe wrote:^^^

Thank you for your response! My backup plan is to go back into consulting and make a career of it. My gut is definitely inclined to throw NU the deuces with hopes that this is just a sign that something greater is waiting for me; I am just torn in that I have been through so many obstacles in just getting here, only to feel that my access has been ultimately denied. I guess my real dilemma is truly reconciling everything, since I have wanted this more than anything, and I don't really want to give up until I know I have exhausted all of my options.AAJD2B wrote:Cali love, it sounds like NU's AJD program.
