Michigan asked me a few questions, I answered as honestly as I could and I am considered wealthy enough to afford law school. So one must have no savings and no retirement accounts to be considered worthy of having grant aid?

i really hope this doesn't end up being the case for me, and thankfully i haven't yet been forced to field any questions about my IRA. if it comes down to it, i guess i'll have to dip into it, but i'd really prefer not to. i'm already in a tax rut from having withdrawn early before.

Yes, I think we have to mention it on the NeedAccess application, they ask something about how much you have in an IRA/401K/Roth etc. as part of the student information form.

What the harvard mbas do is drain their accounts 6 months before apps, shift the money to their parents, change over the titles on investments to other people and claim 0 dollars.

They then are eligible for need based aid, get that + student loans and go buy bmws and stuff. You should have done the same. lol

Interestingly enough, I drained my 401K before I applied for law school, but that was inadvertently. I didn't even consider the fact that it could impact financial aid.

Was up late after work drilling some LG sections and... I'm really starting to get a hang of them; knocking out some of the difficult problems with little problem. Feeling pretty confident about retaking this June if I can keep this going. Might even be able to score high enough to sit out a cycle.

+1 I went up 15 points from my first PT mostly because I mastered LG and started doing them for fun.

Yeah... I'm feeling pretty good about it. Just have to learn to manage my time and get some studying in during lunch/breaks/before/afterwork/etc. Practice testing's going to be the hard part. I have to close everyday. Retail management <<<.

In other words, students from University of Houston's admitted students FB page are panicking about Houston's drop into Tier 2.

I want to explain to them that, honestly, a #58 JD from Houston is better for Texan employers than a #24 JD from William & Mary, so the rankings are irrelevant. However to fully explain myself, I'd probably also have to explain how T14 Texans, UT/Vandy, & perhaps WUSTL graduates are first in line, and I'm not sure that's what they need to hear right now.

I suppose if you're not waiting for any acceptances/offers from schools closer ranked to Vanderbilt, then why not. In that case you have nothing to lose.

However, I'm gonna guess Vandy doesn't see Rutgers as a peer school, so not only may they not budge, but they may be less inclined to take you seriously if, at a later date, you in fact do send an offer from a peer school.

Hmm I think he is saying that he is sending his Vandy and Temple offers to Rutgers, which I think will work. I would note Vandy because that would give them an incentive to go up since you are wanted at a higher ranked school. Good luck!

Yeah, it's always the smaller schools that give the troll offers. On the bright side, out of the 7 attorneys I know in Big Law, 4 of them went to Rutgers. Which is kind of odd when I think about it.

Oh, sorry. Read that too fast. Well in that case, I'd send it. Just spin it to make the focus on making Rutgers more affordable rather than using Vandy's offer to extort them.
