Re: CLEO 2011?
I mailed in my application about 2 weeks ago. I got an email saying my application was being processed 3 days after I sent it, but haven't been contacted since. I sent an email to Mrs. Hancock letting her know I was accepted to UVA, and she replied "OK".
Should I be nervous?

Nope, you have gotten into a great law school. I imagine they will contact you soon to discuss your CLEO app with then.socraticmethodman wrote:I mailed in my application about 2 weeks ago. Re: CLEO 2011?
Just throwing this out there, but no one ever contacted me to discuss my CLEO application before or after I was accepted. I submitted my app, got the confirmation email, then weeks later I got an acceptance letter in the mail and one in my email. Not hearing isn't really anything to be nervous about.ArchRoark wrote:Nope, you have gotten into a great law school. Re: CLEO 2011?
I am assuming since they need to get some answers out to people by Jan. 31, they're strapped for time. I got a pretty short response to my emails, and I'm just chalking it up to their stress. Congrats on your acceptance! That's awesome!!socraticmethodman wrote:I mailed in my application about 2 weeks ago. Just got my placement letter in the mail today and I'm headed to Iowa. I've never been there before so I'm ok with it. Besides, I've got to cut my West Coast 'umbilical cord' sooner than later if I'm going to school on the other side of the country. (See you soon, Cornell!)socraticmethodman wrote:Thanks guys, hopefully I hear something soon!

Re: CLEO 2011?
Haha man now I have one more thing to be anxiously waiting for!! I am in Chicago, so I assume I'll be placed in Iowa, but who knows. I'm not picky either way, but that Megabus ticket looks pretty good right now ($3/each way) rather than the San Diego airfare @ $400+Flett wrote:Just got my placement letter in the mail today and I'm headed to Iowa. Re: CLEO 2011?
I was accepted through snail mail today!
I was actually surprised that they even accepted me into the program due to the fact that I have not received any acceptance letters from the law schools I have applied to. I don't want to read too much into it but hopefully someone one on my list recommended me to the program- so I am trying really hard not to get hopes up. I am thrilled and somewhat relieved to get some good news between the rejections letters.
Good luck to everyone else!

Re: CLEO 2011?
I'm paid in full but still haven't received my assignment. Maybe it'll come in the mail in the next few days.
Did ya'll send your SARs with the deposit? I pulled mine up after submitting my FAFSA but it still says 2010-2011 SAR, even though in the corner it says Expires 12/31/11. Are they waiting for tax info? I remember linking my FAFSA to the IRS website last year.
Anyway, CLEO got my full $500 (low income category) and told me to re-send my SAR by 3/1. Sigh. I'll be glad when all this paperwork is in and we can get started on the actual institute!

Re: CLEO 2011?
I forwarded my CLEO acceptance to SMU and got in their PT program (my preference) with a 151 and the median is 162. I'm thinking CLEO might have had a hand in getting me in. Have yet to get acceptance packet (found out via status checker) and they usually say a lil
something on why you were accepted, so I'll let you know if it mentions CLEO.
Also you get a trip to DC every year with a $250 travel stipend and the scholarship money, so I'm thinking of it as an investment.

I have finally been contacted by CLEO! I received an email requesting that I call tomorrow to discuss my application. Hopefully all goes well!

Re: CLEO 2011?
Awesome, man! Have some questions ready because I definitely forgot to ask any. Also, be prepared for bluntness. She straight asked me, "I see you are applying to SMU. Do you understand your LSAT score is substantially below their median?" I was a bit caught off guard but explained everything (PT program, etc.) and she moved on.socraticmethodman wrote:I have finally been contacted by CLEO! May I ask, when did you send in your last deposit, was it before January 31st? I wanted to see if they place you after both deposits are in.

Re: CLEO 2011?
The placement letter I got says, "We have received your final payment. You have been selected to participate in the CLEO 2011 Summer Institute that will take place at:" Then it lists placement.lwst14 wrote:May I ask, when did you send in your last deposit, was it before January 31st? As for me, I'll be spending June 5-July 15 in sunny, fabulous DES MOINES, IA!! Haha, not too amped about the nightlife or weekend antics, but I'm pretty sure I'll be able to focus and quickly visit my boyfriend in Chicago on a weekend or two. Three cheers for a 6 hour bus trip!
They also include a list of what participants are eligible to receive (though nothing about the criteria needed to earn these things) but here goes:
--Financial Assistance Awards of $5,000/year for 3 years
--Mid-winter Seminar for 1Ls to help prepare for law school exams.
--Mid-winter Seminar for 3Ls to help with bar prep
--Mid-summer professional development seminars for 2Ls and 3Ls
--Mid summer career fair
--Travel Stipends to all seminar events
--Bar stipend to prepare for the bar exam
I am quite interested in that last part, especially since bar prep loans don't sound too appealing after already taking out so much for school.
I'm ready for this to get started! Woo 118 days to go!

Re: CLEO 2011?
So my phone interview went really well, but sadly, I was informed that there are no more low-income seats. $2,000 is A LOT of money, someone please tell me it's worth it!

Re: CLEO 2011?
Glad to hear your interview went well!!
If you go and work really hard to get the scholly money, it'll be worth it 7.5 times over. I am also stoked about the mid-winter and mid-summer seminars. Also, I like to see new places (even if they are less than exotic places like Des Moines) and meet new people.
EDIT::: also I am a big believer in CLEO because of the help I got at the ASAP seminar last summer. I really owe a lot of my application success (in at a T1 with a 151 LSAT) to them and their advice. And lastly, I am pretty terrified about 1L.
I freak out if I don't get all A's, and from what I hear, that's usually pretty unheard of right off the bat in law school. So I'm taking all the help I can get.

Kitty, looks like I will be joining you in IA LOL. I was tempted to ask for San Diego, but I knew I would focus better in Des Moines. WOW. I've never been to Iowa nor have any idea of what it is really like.
I will be spending my BIRTHDAY and 4TH OF JULY at the institute.
