Anyone know the average time between a JS1 and a decision? My hand has been glued to my phone and I can't seem to bring myself to answer any unknown calls that aren't from MA.

You can find the average in the spreadsheets in the acceptances and denials forum. In my case I heard back in just under two months.

Michigan extended their app deadline for anyone who wanted to apply, but didn't get the chance to.

I didn't get their fee waiver in the mail until the 12th, didn't have any time to put together any optional essays and sent it in on the 15th. Now they extended the deadline and I wish I had known so I could have worked on the optional essays. Blah.

I waited 5 weeks. Just relax! I know that's easier said then done though.

I feel you though, it has been 4 weeks since my JS1. But, I would rather keep waiting than get a ding!

Just applied for SEO and got the confirmation email! SO excited!

I have an interview with WUSTL in a couple of weeks and my UofMD decision is coming via snail mail...I wasn't expecting to have such a flurry of activity so soon after applying, esp with my numbers. Feelin' good and feelin' blessed!

Are there any PI people applying to SEO? Just curious. I know there are training opportunities, but do you guys think it is useful for someone with PI interests?

Yea I did. I'm definitely going PI after law school and I did talk about it in my interview. I still think SEO is great for the training and networking and Luisa has said that you dont have to be biglaw focused to get accepted into the program. I think alot of alums have gone into PI after law school rather than biglaw.

I think alot of alums have gone into PI after law school rather than biglaw.

I applied and have an interview pretty soon; My law school recommendations, personal statement, and pretty much everything about my life and long-term plans are PI-focused, but it still seems like such an excellent opportunity to gain skills and a better understanding of the field. It's good to see I'm not alone

I feel you. My app is tailored the same way as yours, and that is definitely the same worry I had when applying. But I'm glad I'm not alone as a PI person lol.

My essays are all about advocacy and public policy. But I included a little blurb on the application about how corporate law exposure and networking will better equip me for my long term goals. I think that so long as you can somehow link the big picture utility of one for the other, you'll be fine.

Had a phone conversation with a current black student at Cornell today. I am quite excited to hear of the placement rate of black students from Cornell at V50 law firms (was told every black student in his/her class had firm offers except for one). The student I spoke to had over 10 offers to choose from after OCI.

We also spoke of Cornell's efforts to retain and grow the minority law student population. They definitely seem to be one of the few top law schools that put their money down to try and recruit minorities. They supposedly also host professional development events throughout the year for minority students and the mentorship is extensive as is the opportunities to be actively involved on journals and organizations. This black student is a president of one organization and editor-in-chief of one journal -- pretty awesome!

Location wise, he/she said that even though they are in Ithaca, the opportunities to network were far from limited as NYC isn't that far away and many employers come out to actively seek out students, especially minorities. As the Cornell community is pretty small-knit, and the minority student population even smaller, it isn't hard to stand out in the crowd. Employers definitely seek Cornell URMs out.

He/she also utilized their SEO network (looks like SEO isn't exclusively about T6 or "fuhgetaboutit"). This person turned down a T5 for Cornell, which was interesting to hear.

I am still waiting to hear back from 9 schools so I haven't yet made a firm decision, but Cornell is looking mighty good right now. Hopefully my visit to Cornell in the coming weeks and getting a decision from my remaining schools will help seal the deal.

Anyway, just thought I would share for those interested in Cornell. Off to finish watching some Dexter reruns. Goodnight!

All right, law schools, I am over this whole waiting thing. Let's stop this charade because goodness knows no one has time for all this anxiety. If you could please mail or e-mail my acceptance letters at your earliest convenience, I'd be ever so grateful.
