You're going to have a great time at Stanfordclarf wrote:I've had a weird cycle so far. I'm a MA, 172 LSAT, 3.6 GPA.
In at Georgetown.
Waitlisted at U Penn.
FR at Berkeley.
Interviewed with Chicago and Cornell.
Haven't heard back from Harvard, Stanford, UVA, NYU, UCLA, and Duke yet.
Applied to all of them back in mid-November, except NYU and UCLA, which I applied to in the beginning of January.
I sure hope so. They're my number one choice, and I lived in the Bay Area until I was 11 or 12 or so. It'd be a bit of a homecoming.GreekOmega12 wrote:You're going to have a great time at Stanfordclarf wrote:I've had a weird cycle so far. I'm a MA, 172 LSAT, 3.6 GPA.

Why do you think this is weird? I mean..you have no rejections lol. You were waitlisted by an out-of-state school notorious for YP and put on review by a school with a black-box admissions process known to prefer high GPAs to LSATs. Unless there are glaring issues with your app (which probably would have kept Gtown from admitting you), you're probably going to get in with $$$$ everywhere below HYS with at least one of them throw in as the cherry on top. Just sit back and watch the show =)clarf wrote:I've had a weird cycle so far. I'm a MA, 172 LSAT, 3.6 GPA.

Totally. I am looking far into the future -- law school admissions is certainly not the end. But regardless, you have a lot going for you and your outcome was absolutely inspiring, at least to meTr3 wrote:I don't necessarily regret coming to NYU (because it's a fantastic school), but I definitely don't like that it's automatically assumed that I want to work in NYC. I think it would be easier to get into my target market (SF/Bay) had I gone to a school in Nor Cal. Again, it's possible to get there from NYU and I'm sure going to try for 2L; but it seems I've met people (2Ls/3Ls/Alumni) who have struck out in Cali and some people who didn't really have a problem. Either way, the probability of getting to Cali from NYU seems lower than a Cali school to Cali market (obvi... smh).GreekOmega12 wrote:Thanks for that! I really appreciate it and am sure others do too. In retrospect do you regret your decision or are you content with being relegated to NY now?Tr3 wrote:
Thanks! I mean, it's all a personal choice, right? So I don't mean to say that my experience should guide anyone's decision, I just think there are more factors to consider than merely $$$ and prestige. In the end, it's your life and you need to make a decision that works for you, just try to be mindful of what you'll gain and lose by choosing one school over another. I'm definitely out here in NY hustling, but going to school out here caused stress that I didn't fully foresee when I chose NYU and it seems unnecessary considering I could have just gone to school in my target market. I have a love/hate relationship with my situation (lol) but am still totally grateful for the education/scholarship program. Good luck in choosing a school! =)CAJOLER wrote: Fantastic post. I remember you from the Results thread of last cycle. And actually, I was just thinking about what you suggest -- 1) where I want to work (California) and 2) where I'll be happy. That sort of disqualifies many schools. In fact, I might take UCLA over Duke, though some people on this site would call me an idiot for doing so. Point is, THANK YOU for reinforcing my viewpoint -- which is very illustrative of the fact that there is much more than $$$ and ranking to consider. I hope your semester is going well!
Another thing to keep in mind is that some adcomms separate out URM applications and review them together in bunches--Harvard does this for sure. Think about it, there are fewer of us who apply in any given cycle, so it naturally will take longer for them to get a critical mass to review. Also, for reasons that we don't have to go into, a lot of schools want their medians set before they begin admitting URMs in any numbers. So, paying attention to what is happening to non-URM applications will just throw you for a loop. As 180kick said, just be patient, you haven't had any kind of shocking result so far. Good news is coming.clarf wrote:
I guess I'm just getting a bit neurotic because people with later completion dates than me are getting admitted, and I haven't had an acceptance in about a month. Looks like I've just gotta keep on keeping on though.
Can you please use a little sliver of your rain dance to ask B and M why they hate me? It makes me so sad.180kickflip wrote:So far in at G, M, N, and B, with interviews done at a few more. No word on $ yet, but I've been doing my rain dance religiously, so I'm feeling optimistic
haha. With your acceptances, you don't need to dance. Lol, you're too kind. This is kind of like high school though. I don't think about who wants me, I am obsessing over who doesn't haha.180kickflip wrote:haha.
