It was really conversational so we mostly talked about my interests and she talked about programs at HLS that serve those interests. Very short, about 12 mins or so.

I think the acceptance rate is about 70-80%, assuming ~1200 interview invites. After the interview is faculty review, which seems to be taking a lot of time this year.

I had my interview 11/12 and heard back 12/15.
Yeah, ditto. It's a very cordial interview. We laughed alot during mine. It's probably impossible to not feel anxious beforehand, but rest assured that it's actually a fun interview.

This seems like the largest wave of URMs so far. I guess mth2 was right. They were probably waiting for a larger number of URM applicants for comparison.
Eta: nvm.

Eta, what dates are you guys interviewing on ? I accidentally misplaced my email.
I think someone in the Harvard thread said the slots started on 1/6 but not sure because everything is closed now.

We really need a new, more proactive OP. New poll:

What month will LC complete her sweep of HYSCC ?

New poll: When will Neurotic get his JS2?

Or, which is the first school that's going to toss me a dollar of merit aid...Seeing all the Mich/Cornell schollys roll in to people with similar numbers is making me wonder if they don't like me. I know I shouldn't be impatient or complain because I realize I'm so lucky to have the acceptances...But mama LC is poor :(

Yale is going to make her wait (no URMs have gotten Yale yet afaik), because...Yale. So, April.

January for the others.

Mama LC, please note that i swept the t~ 14 for need based fee waivers, including Stanford.

Somebody ask the mods for control over the thread. I'd do it myself, but I don't have a computer, and using my phone for TLS is already tedious enough.

Looks like next year things will pick up pretty quickly.

You should get great need based aid from H then ;) I got a full need based scholly in undergrad but I know that the need aid in law school is not as good so I'm hoping for some merit money to materialize over the next few months.

Thanks all for predicting great results for me! I can only hope that it comes true :)

Max aid at YHS ain't all it's cracked up to be. You still have to borrow at least $43k/year at HLS and something similar at the other two even with max aid. That means the cheapest those are is like $130k.

Don't want to borrow the minimum? Then no grant :(

Yikes.

On another note, but also money related...how many ASWs are y'all planning on going to? I really can't tell how valuable these events are (I absolutely hated them when choosing an undergrad) and seeing as I'm only close to 2/13 schools I applied to I know flights from CA to wherever are going to add up. Not to mention the unpaid time off work...

Hell yeah...but how much is pereftige worth? Worth $75k over a Ruby? What about a Darrow Dillard or free ride to Cornell/Northwestern? I'm honestly asking because I just don't know.

Haha in all seriousness I would take a full ride at most of the t-14 instead of going to hys at sticker all things being equal. obviously, though, certain situations may arise in which hys at sticker is the better option.

After a long, hard time thinking about it, I'd go to H/S over big money elsewhere. I feel like I'll be kicking myself for a long time if I pass either of those up

If you know you're going to LRAP anyway I imagine YHS is easier to justify, particularly if you are gunning for some kind of prestigious PI or unicorn job. I'm not sure but if your goals are biglaw I imagine it would be crazy to turn down a Hammy/Ruby. Another reason to prefer YHS would be for academia/clerking I guess?

Not sure if YHS are worth more than any full tuition scholly in the T14 if you'd be happy with NYC biglaw.

Ok, so a Ruby is definitely tough to walk away from. But half scholly to cls or uchi is financially comparable to max aid at hys(not saying that's easy to get ).

I definitely think that people try too hard to reduce these decisions to purely quantifiable factors (cost, placement, etc) when at the end of the day if you excel at any t-5 school you can do anything you want. I think it's important for people to consider subjective elements like school culture when making these decisions, because your social experience(however limited) and lifestyle at school is going to affect your academic performance.

Not saying that's worth paying an extra $150,000 for, but it's something to consider.

Neurotic blasphemes TLS orothodoxy, but he's 100% right. At some point culture and for us URMs, support network, does trump quantitative factors. I've seen more than one URM take HLS over YLS for this exact reason. For culture and community, I don't think you can beat HLS.

The exciting thing about this hypothetical is that some of us will be making this very choice.

Agreed ^ Personally, I'd definitely be choosing Cambridge over New Haven if it came down to that divine choice

Taking a break from TLS until the new year. Stressing myself out a little too much. Going to focus on my rehab for a little while, and get ready to finish my undergrad strong. Taking 21 hours next semester to graduate in three years. Hope you all have a very merry Christmas, or whatever holiday that your faith observes and here's to making 2015 a great year for all of us in this URM Cycle. One Love!

Im not sure. I def wanna go to UCLA since they will pay for it. And then maybe 1 or 2 others depending on how realistic they are as choices. When I did ASW undergrad it really did influence my decision. I was dead set on a particular school, went, and hated it. Meanwhile another school blew me away and I ultimately attended the latter.

I actually had a kind of opposite experience - loved one school (the school I had always wanted to attend), and hated the ASW experience at the school I ultimately attended for undergrad. The latter school gave me more money (had better need-based financial aid) and I know it was ultimately the right choice but the horrible ASW really made me question my decision.

Now I have applied to both of those schools again for law school!

I will be attending Berkeley's ASW (since it's close by) and probably Harvard's but I'm not sure about others. Maybe NYU since I've never been to NYC?
