Still waiting on YHS.
Applied 4 months ago. Waiting is no fun! Here's hoping that this is the week for a bunch of Stanford acceptances and/or JS1s from the hold list at Harvard! Good luck, everyone.

Re: 2011 - 2012 URM Application Cycle
Update, cycle is pretty much winding down now.
IN
Harvard, Columbia, NYU (IILJ finalist), Chicago, Berkeley, UVA, Georgetown (withdrew), UCLA (withdrew)
WL
Penn
Still waiting on Yale, Stanford and Michigan (although this is almost certainly a WL by now)
Leaning pretty hard towards HLS right now but only got in recently (still delirious), so going to withdraw from most of the other schools by the end of the week.

So what do you think... fewer URM applicants, schools being slower with admissions decisions, or just not as many people posting here?sharktankdean wrote:i think its interesting that at this time last cycle, the urm thread was on page 68...we are at 26.

I had heard that 3/7 was a big day for URM acceptances last year.sharktankdean wrote:Supposedly this is meant to be URM acceptance week at Stanford. But looking at tls and lsn it does not look like that many people got in this time last yr...

honestly that might have just been unique to last cycle...looking at previous cycles i can't see any threads...plus last cycle 3/4 hd a decent number of urm admits....the # that got in on 3/7 wasnt really big.

Re: 2011 - 2012 URM Application Cycle
If nothing else, the time frame for them to make decisions is quickly narrowing. Back in Dec. waiting until Mid-April sounded awful. Even if we have to wait until then, at this point there isn't much more waiting we can do.sharktankdean wrote:FryBreadPower wrote:I had heard that 3/7 was a big day for URM acceptances last year.sharktankdean wrote:Supposedly this is meant to be URM acceptance week at Stanford. I don't know if there were less URMs this cycle but I haven't posted here before because I didn't know there was a here. I'm off to a pretty slow start (if you can even call it that in March)... I'm not sure how URM status has/will affect me... I don't understand anything about this process... I just want to go to Emory Law

Random question:
Are any of you considering diversity when deciding on a law school. I for one am all about the rankings (and $$)
dont get me wrong, but lets say your choosing among the top 3, top 6, t10, do you stop and look at minority numbers? Is that important to you at all?

Re: 2011 - 2012 URM Application Cycle
I've looked at it. One of the reasons I chose a larger school (Besides the rankings, money, and the fact that no small schools like me very much) is the fact that they generally have a larger minorty population and this one in particular has a strong BLSA. My undergrad also has a very strong relationship with the school I ended up at. The rankings and cash made it easily a top choice, the other things made it the obvious pick for me.Dani.B wrote:Random question:

Re: 2011 - 2012 URM Application Cycle
Yeah, when I visited Cornell I met with a 3L BLSA member and asked her questions irrelevant to the # of minorities...from how does the administration look out for minorities to where can I get my hair done, etc. She also gave me her views on BLSA's at the other schools I'm looking at, and it made me like the school a lot more than I did before my visit...I think besides looking at the #'s, it's important to see the quality of life for minorities -- is there staff that care for the minority students, listen to their concerns, etc. A smaller minority population may mean the students have more access to resources (textbooks & supplements the BLSA purchases) and a stronger sense of community than it might at bigger schoolsDani.B wrote:Random question:

I was just wondering if amc987, Mitterand or Justdoingmybest got JS1s?.... I think we all submitted around the same time and our cycles are pretty much similar (yes I admit it, I stalked your profiles a little)...I'm trying to see if i should be looking forward to more js1s...or jut give up now

Re: 2011 - 2012 URM Application Cycle
I'm in a similar position. Deciding between UChicago and UVA - Scholly is now almost the same at both so that's not a distinguishing factor any longer. There are aspects I really like about both, and some concerns with both as well. UChicago is ranked higher but both have strong rankings. How much weight do you place on fit/preference or is it all about the highest ranked school you're accepted into? The diversity numbers (not %'s) are slight at UChicago given the number of students. It's not an overriding factor, but I do find myself considering it as well.Dani.B wrote:Random question:
