Have you all been reading any books etc. on law school or the law, generally?
A while back someone one here was pushing Don't Go To Law School (Unless). So I'm reading that now. The Lawyer Bubble is next. I figure if these two can't dissuade me from going nothing can.

Just realized my status checker says "Decision" for UW since 1/15. No decision yet. Jeeze. I think I'm addicted to the anxiety..

The Laywer Bubble is a pretty good overview of the problems that pervade the law school/Big Law system. Are you reading Liar's Poker to dissuade yourself from Corp Law? Just curious, I'm thinking about reading it and I thought it was pretty negative about the culture of Wall Street.

I'm reading two books atm.EvMont wrote:Have you all been reading any books etc. on law school or the law, generally?

1) "The Happy Lawyer" (2010), which is about that stereotype that lawyers are "unhappy." It provides a pretty solid overview of stats relating to the stereotype and how stats compare in different areas of law (eg. corporate law happiness vs. PI law happiness). Some of it is bullshit speculation like "well...if you like to help people and you're in PI, you must be happy cus you're helping people". But I thought the stats were interesting.
2) "The Stanford Law Chronicles: Doin' Time on the Farm" (2005). The author of this book mostly talks about his experience in law school as a Latino. It's kind of a response to books written from a "white" perspective like "the paper chase" and "One L." Some of it is really dumb, but I think it's a good read for people of color who are trying to mentally "prepare" themselves for microagressions.

Damn. My numbers aren't THAT high and Cornell is one of my top choices. Should I send in a LOCI?applelover wrote:californiauser wrote:I feel this way about NYU and Cornell...UR1 in October at both and other URMs with lower numbers than me have been what appears to be auto acceptedmandyjay11 wrote:I'm beginning to think some of my apps were thrown straight in the trash upon receipt.

if you read through the Cornell thread, you'll see that a good number of strong applicants haven't been accepted yet.californiauser wrote:Damn. Not until after they've rendered a decision, held, reserve, waitlisted or otherwise.californiauser wrote:Damn. My numbers aren't THAT high and Cornell is one of my top choices. Honestly, this is turning out to be a weird cycle for URMs.

Oh geez, October? You got me beat. I'm on week 6 for Cornell and still verifying. 4 schools haven't even tried to look at my app in 6 weeks. Oh well, ughcaliforniauser wrote:I feel this way about NYU and Cornell...UR1 in October at both and other URMs with lower numbers than me have been what appears to be auto acceptedmandyjay11 wrote:I'm beginning to think some of my apps were thrown straight in the trash upon receipt.

Seriously. Before this cycle everyone was telling me that I'd get at least 1 T6 and most likely get all of MVP...waitlisted at VP and not expecting to get a T6 at all at this pointAAJD2B wrote:quote]
