Congrats on the acceptances and good luck on the LSAT! Berkeley does seem amazing. I'm hoping they give me a call sometime...jd20132013 wrote:Got in my UGA and USC apps a couple of weeks back, didn't ask them to hold the decision because I felt like I could be competitive there with my numbers.
Berkeley and UVA I asked to hold pending Dec. LSAT.
gonna do most of the rest of the T14 after I take the LSAT...Berkeley is probably my first choice at this point

I AM URM DESPITE what everyone on tls thinks. Hispanic, but non-mexican and non-puerto rican. hispanic nevertheless with a tie to my heritage (bilingual).
Keep the faith all you "other hispanic" URM's.

Congrats, that's great news, and a data point I'm sure others on TLS will be happy to hear.masterthearts wrote:ACCEPTED AT GEORGETOWN..with lsat under their 25 percentile and gpa slightly above the 75th percentile

Truthfully,I don't think TLS knows what it's talking about when they say only mexican and Puerto ricans get the "boost". I think that's an urban legendvanwinkle wrote:Congrats, that's great news, and a data point I'm sure others on TLS will be happy to hear.masterthearts wrote:ACCEPTED AT GEORGETOWN..with lsat under their 25 percentile and gpa slightly above the 75th percentile

Well, I believe it's based in a Michigan court decision, which explicitly stated African-American, Mexican, Puerto Rican, and Native Americans could get the "boost."masterthearts wrote:Truthfully,I don't think TLS knows what it's talking about when they say only mexican and Puerto ricans get the "boost". Well, I don't think that is how it went. I though NO ONE could get a boost simply due to race/ethnicity, but that diversity is still a good thing. So, I thought the applicant needed to demonstrate some type of adversity, such as socioeconomic disadvantage.Knock wrote:Well, I believe it's based in a Michigan court decision, which explicitly stated African-American, Mexican, Puerto Rican, and Native Americans could get the "boost."masterthearts wrote:Truthfully,I don't think TLS knows what it's talking about when they say only mexican and Puerto ricans get the "boost". Not sure, I may be wrong. But I found some links if you were interested:masterthearts wrote:Well, I don't think that is how it went. Michigan I believe had a "point" system, so an appicant could get 20 pts., for example, just for being African American. That is no longer allowed is how I understand it.
Anyway, even if what you said is true, I think the rules only applied to michigan, and certainly not to private law schools, and other state schools.
Congratulations!!DorianGray89 wrote:In at BC!

Sweet. I tend to agree. And there are so few out there to gather data on. Do an LSN search on "Hispanic" as race and so few come up.masterthearts wrote:Truthfully,I don't think TLS knows what it's talking about when they say only mexican and Puerto ricans get the "boost". Honestly, I will never really know if being "other Hispanic" gave me a boost.Sinra wrote:Sweet. I tend to agree. And there are so few out there to gather data on. Stats are 3.39/161... Michigan resident, attend top-50 LAC, strong softs, 4 excellent LOR's (2 profs, 1 dean, 1 supervisor), excellent PS & DS (I know it's late but if anyone needs help with their writing samples send 'em my way!)... Although being Pakistani doesn't qualify me as URM, I do have other identiy/health related factors that have significantly impacted my life and the opportunities I've had. I know that most my list is a major, major reach, but I figure one of them could bite?! Complete at about half, under review at a few, anxiously waiting with the rest of yall! <3
