Re: URM 2013-2014 Cycle Thread
So I have been researching DC law firms. They have a Howard grad or two, but there are no partners at any of these firms from Howard. I understand one of the major selling points of Howard is that top firms come to recruit, but if by chance you are one of the lucky few to get in the door, how would having a Howard degree bode in terms of partnership chances? From my research, making partner comes down to your educational background, your clients, who you know and your overall value to the firm.
Basically, can a Howard degree be a negative in a majority white world of law? Just thinking out loud here..

Lower tier schools are all lacking representation at the largest U.S. firms. It's not Howard being held back, lower tier schools in general aren't producing lawyers who become partners. Check out article below. It lists the top feeder schools for major law firm partners.BankruptMe wrote:So I have been researching DC law firms. That's a good article, I was looking up DC firms and as I previously stated, there were no Howard partners...however there were several AU Law partners, as this article also states.
So if there are a lot of American Law partners, wouldnt networking be able to get you in the door if OCI cannot? I am new here, I am sorry if this is a dumb question. I see AU is $hit, but i am astounded at how many partners they have produced at DC firms.

This is my first post after creeping around these parts for a bit. I can't wait for this thread to light up with acceptances. Best of luck to all!

Got fee waivers just for registering for the LSAT.
Emailed some of the schools on my list this morning, got fee waivers too.

To all that requested fee waivers.... Which schools approved them? So far I've been approved by UVA but Columbia, Cornell, and Chicago are giving me the run around. -____-

Got this e-mail from SEO to one of my alternative e-mail addresses.
"Hi -
Happy Holidays and thank you for your interest in an internship through the SEO Career Program.
Our interview process is well underway and we have already begun admitting the class of 2014. The application should only take a few minutes. Submit today!"
Has anyone from TLS been admitted yet?

I received the same email. I was hoping to get in a few more acceptances and my new (hopefully improved) LSAT score before I submitted but I may just send anyway.BentleyLittle wrote:Got this e-mail from SEO to one of my alternative e-mail addresses.

They tell you to send in the email but in the info session relayed that there is no disadvantage to send later as it comes down to where you're being accepted. So confusing!!

Question, how important are "why" essays. I have some written, but I don't feel like they would sway an admissions committee one way or the other. Does not having one a make or break my apps?

Anecdotally, they seem to be important for MVP. I wrote Why essays for most of the T14, I figured it can't hurt and it really doesn't take too much time to write a 1 page paper on why you want to attend a certain schooltoshiroh wrote:Question, how important are "why" essays. From what I've gathered, it can make or break you at Duke. Also important at MVP like californiauser stated.toshiroh wrote:Question, how important are "why" essays. I would just do it. It honestly doesn't take that long. Just search the website and find unique hings that you like about the school and type it up.

Man, UVA is not playing today. A whole bunch of WL went out, alongside some rejections.
I am here waiting for the same fate. I have heard nothing since sending in mid-late October.
This in addition to a potential LSAT score release is making me super nervous!

Goodluck. I was in the WL group and I think the email went out as a group so I think you weathered the storm.AAJD2B wrote:Man, UVA is not playing today. A whole bunch of WL went out, alongside some rejections.

I didn't write one for any school and I've gotten into Duke and Michigan so far (schools that are kinda known to YP). We'll see what Penn says I guess. So you don't have to write one. It's probably safer to write one but if the rest of your application is strong then I wouldn't be too worried about not including a why essay.toshiroh wrote:Question, how important are "why" essays.
