I get no benefits-- not even a gym membership discount. Not used to this. :-/
Oh well -- I'll just invesigate Obamacare or whatever it is people without plans do. Cobra maybe? I have no clue (showing my ignorance).
Just curious if anyone is getting benefits and I just had an unlucky placement.

You're an intern, not a full-time employee. Not even full-time contracted lawyers get benefits at these firms.DiniMae wrote:I get no benefits-- not even a gym membership discount. Not used to this. :-/

I appreciate the reminder of intern status but a few posts ago people mentioned gym benefits, so I'm asking about any others. As someone else stated there's little info about SEO on the Internet so I would've found this helpful if someone in years' past had itemized what some firms offer.Apsara wrote:You're an intern, not a full-time employer. As a 0L not allowed to post these questions in the legal employment thread I found this one to be the best place to ask the naive questions that I have--let me know if there's somewhere better. This may seem silly to you, but it's legit to me. My question stands if someone else doesn't mind sharing. Thank you.

Yeah, interns hardly ever get insurance benefits (I've never heard of it, anyway). However, if you're moving to a new state or changing jobs, and the job doesn't offer benefits, then you can apply for Obamacare. Some states have specific rules though, so if you qualify for Obamacare, that could be a different story. Either way, changing states is an exception that allows you to enroll in a health insurance plan outside of the enrollment period. Cobra should work, too, if you're leaving a current job. I think I'm going to look into Obamacare when I get to NY--at least that's what my insurance broker advised me to do.DiniMae wrote:I appreciate the reminder of intern status but a few posts ago people mentioned gym benefits, so I'm asking about any others. Okay quick question,
If a firm says we are getting paid $WXYZ per week, does that actually mean we will be getting paid weekly? and is this amount net or gross? Does it vary by firm? Any previous SEO's OTT care to chime in on this?

Gym benefits are just discounts. Equinox will still cost a pretty penny of $300-ish a month after discount. You can't compare gym discounts to health insurance where a firm pays into group insurance for all its employees. You're not an employee and technically not hired by the firm but through SEO who arranges for your placement.DiniMae wrote:I appreciate the reminder of intern status but a few posts ago people mentioned gym benefits, so I'm asking about any others. Gross. Some firm placements pay hourly separate from weekly. Often, firms pay bi-weekly or semi-monthly.Alhe5015 wrote:Okay quick question,

What about coverage through your law school? Isn't it part of the tuition? But I guess that technically doesn't kick in until you start school in August/September.Tr3 wrote:Yeah, interns hardly ever get insurance benefits (I've never heard of it, anyway). Hi everyone! Do you all know if we need a laptop for the orientation week? I saw the note about not bringing one to the first day, but for some reason I thought we needed one during the week. Thanks!

Looking forward to meeting everyone tomorrow! Random, probably silly question here: does anyone know if we can bring bags to hold our readings/notebooks/etc. ? Maybe I'm overthinking this

Spent the last few months zoning in on LSAT 2 weeks ago, and put everything else on hold. Almost ready to complete my SEO Application for round 2. Am I at a significant disadvantage by submitting a November (Round 2) app vs. an October (Round 1) app?

There were people picked up last year that applied last minute so I would not be concerned.Cochran wrote:Spent the last few months zoning in on LSAT 2 weeks ago, and put everything else on hold. I applied as well, haven't heard anything either, but I don't think they start interviewing until later in the year. Should we start a new thread for this application year?

In regards to GPAs (including LSDAS gpa too), do you always round up? (For example, would a 3.807 gpa round up to a 3.81?)

Re: 2015 SEO Corporate Law Applicants
If it was me I would just put 3.8. I doubt SEO really cares about that .007.Cochran wrote:In regards to GPAs (including LSDAS gpa too), do you always round up? (For example, would a 3.807 gpa round up to a 3.81?)
