In the same situation...working on my PS. then DS. aiming for Nov 1st as well. Hopefully Oct 24-26 brings great news.

PS is finished mostly. I have to write a shorter 2 page version for a few schools and my diversity statement but otherwise most of my apps are ready to send out.

Same schools as you + Berkeley, UCLA, Mich and Georgetown.

I set aside about 2 hours a weekend for a month. Maybe 3 or 4 revisions.

All summer, really. I think that's probably overkill but I believe you should submit it, knowing you gave your all. I revised it numerous times and what I ended up with looked nothing like the original. It really depends on your background and story but the grammar, lexis and structure should be flawless.

Run it by as many people as possible and take criticisms in stride. Good luck.

PS: If you're writing a DS try to compose a story with your whole application. I think this matters for reaches, but I could be wrong. Leave nothing to chance. Address anything that needs to be addressed and confront any perceived shortcomings in your application head-on. Some argue it's all about numbers but if people are swinging Yale with 158, there must be something else. I think this matters as a urm.

Sounds like a great plan. I'm trying to get it done in a week or two. I have been working on it for a week now 1-2 hrs per day. It would be great if i have a semi-final draft in a week so i can start working on the DS.

If your PS turned out great its not overkill. I have a good idea of where I'm heading, i'm just trying to make it sound more 'professional' and less story-like. Its funny i walk around my apartment reading out loud to make sure it sounds right. My roommates prob think I'm crazy.
