So my Canadian application are done I'm just working on my US apps, I will keep you all up-to-date on both applications,
Canadian law more or less in order
Victoria
British Columbia
Alberta
Manitoba
I'm really kicking myself in the ass for not applying to UofT (Nov.1 deadline) but I heard they are very GPA heavy

PS if anyone as any question about the process at Canadian School I'm happy to answer

University of Minnesota has been quickly becoming my first choice. They have a really impressive Native American law curriculum: American Indian Law, Federal Indian Law, Native American Law & Literature, Tribal Courts Seminar, American Indian History Seminar, and an Indian Child Welfare Clinic. I'm definitely going to try to take many (if not all) of those classes.

Minnesota is a great school with an awesome federal Indian program. I'd actually moved my family to Minneapolis in anticipation of attending, placed my deposits, and withdrawn from all my schools. (Well, I'd thought I'd withdrawn - Cornell apparently didn't get the message before coming back with a great offer.) But I would have loved living in Minneapolis.

That's what I'm afraid of... Cornell and Columbia are the only t14s I haven't heard from, and they'll likely be the only ones to sway me at this point. They seem to be taking their time making decisions though, and I honestly can't see myself just packing up and moving after already getting settled in Minneapolis (and I don't even know that I could afford to even if I wanted to).

You'll know before April -- I was accepted in March, but my financial aid package got lost in the mail and I didn't get it until June 1 -- a month after we'd relocated to Minneapolis. I don't expect you'll move there that early (we wanted to get our kids into school before summer.) And I'm still of the belief you'll be accepted here.

I hope I here one way or the other I would hate to commit to a summer program and then get really great offer

No, I definitely won't be moving before April. My lease is up May 15, so I was just hoping to have a place ready at the beginning of May for my boyfriend to start moving in and looking for a job then. I just hope I haven't wasted the money of depositing on a school AND an apartment before I decide.

I'm I the only one going for Duke ? My numbers aren't great (159 3.2) however Duke has admitted students with my numbers before, I have good to great softs and finally Duke Law seems to have low number of NA (one total in ABA data I saw) some I have my hopes

My third Canadian pick (i'm thinking US school separate from Canadian Schools unless H or C and maybe D) I want BC and the North in Canada which pushes me towards UBC or UVIC Alberta does have a joint program with Colorado so I could get both JD in 4 year and a great Oil and gas program so I will give consideration in fact I plan to visit. Visited Minnesota this weekend for ASW and absolutely loved it. Unless I get in to Cornell with $ or Columbia, that's definitely where I'll be in the fall.

Thought I'd chime in! I'm a Navajo/Irish mix but I'm not registered to my tribe. (There are a lot of reasons for this that largely have to do with not being raised by my bio parents.) I identified as both NA and white in my applications, indicated no tribal ID, and was forthcoming about my status in my personal statement.

I have a 3.88/164. At the time I was pretty happy with my LSAT ... now I'm wishing I had retaken in February but what's done is done! It's been hard for me to gauge how much my URM status has affected my admission chances but I think it's definitely played some kind of role.

I want to practice NA law so I applied to several schools that specialize in this area. I also applied to some T14's and schools that I felt I would be able to get a good public interest foundation in since there weren't very many NA programs to choose from.

The most exciting NA program I have been accepted to thus far, in my opinion, is the JD/MA in American Indian Studies (with IPLP certificate) at the University of Arizona. This has been especially exciting because I was offered a full ride. Where I'm stuck right now is whether going to a school with this specialization is better than going to a school with a stronger reputation - like the University of Texas. If anyone has insight I'd love to hear it!

I was told by an NA Law Prof that out east the tribes don't really care about ASU, U of A, or UNM's Indian Legal programs. So maybe that means it's good for out West, or maybe he was exagerrating...

Which ones do they care about then, if any? Many of the people I've talked with have told me to go to ASU if I want this kind of program. Of course, this could just be Wet Coast bias, but I'm curious.

Well, I think he may have been exagerrating, as the only programs I know of out East are Michigan State and Kansas (if we want to call that East). I think a number of schools have classes (Columbia, Cornell, WUSTL, UMN etc.) but not programs. He said this in the context of my expressing interest in attending one of those, ASU or UofA.

Wisconsin has a a legit NDN law program, complete with a full clinic. I know that it is a big deal among the tribes in the midwest. Unsure about out east.

Withdrew from all of my schools except UMN (accepted with $35k/year), WUSTL (still waiting) and Cornell (still waiting).

I'm still staying in the running for WUSTL, but it would take a LOT from them to sway me from UMN.

I have such mixed feelings about Cornell right now. I just looked at their tuition and such (yeah, a little late in the cycle to be considering this, but I didn't really expect to get in anyway)... it's outrageously expensive. Based on LSN and what I've read on the Cornell thread, their highest merit-based award is $30K/year, and I know I won't qualify for need-based aid (which sucks, because my parents aren't contributing a dime to my law school education). IF I even got that (by some divine miracle), it'd still leave me with $23k/year in tuition, PLUS living expenses, books, etc. I'm extremely debt-averse, so this number seems DAUNTING considering that there's a possibility that I could graduate from UMN with less than $60,000 in debt if I play my cards right (I have some money in savings I plan to use to cut down on my loan estimates, and I'm also considering looking at a TA position for 2L and 3L, which at UMN gets you an in-state tuition waiver). I just don't know how much more debt I'm willing to take on to go to a better-ranked school. I know Cornell has so much more to offer in the way of prestige and name-dropping, and I'm sure they have a wider representation at OCI, but I think I'll still have some fantastic opportunities at UMN too. They also really wowed me at ASW, I know I'd be happy there.

Sorry for the long vent. Any advice/opinions would be appreciated. If I get accepted at Cornell (especially with money), this is going to be the hardest decision I've ever made. (On the flip side, if they keep lollygagging over at admissions and don't let me know something by mid-April, I won't have a choice, I'll already be looking for an apartment in Minneapolis).

So that entire rant last night was completely unnecessary. Lol. I had a really frank talk with my parents and significant other last night and decided that Minnesota really is the best choice for me. I know some people on here are going to think I'm crazy (I'm looking at you, MBW. lol), but at this point I have a feeling I already know that that's where I'm going to end up anyway. From the moment I left ASW I knew that that's where I was going to be happy. I'm so excited to have finally made a decision though!
