For future URMs reading these threads: apply EVERYWHERE. Don't listen to what people say, don't look at the numbers. URM cycles are so hot/cold every year, and LSN doesn't seem to be the best predictor on where you will get in. There were maybe 2-3 MA urms with my numbers over the past 5 years who got in, I thought this was a shot in the dark.

Write a compelling statement, sell your work experience/school accomplishments and you'll get T14 acceptances. I almost didn't apply based on advice here, but thought it was worth it to throw in a hat before retaking. Retaking is always an option, but I think you'll be pleasantly surprised by your cycle.
Congratulations! It's great that you got the outcome you were seeking.

Wonder if you'll get the TLS wisdom in this thread...
Congratulations! Must be a relief to be done with the cycle so early :)

Re: The customary TLS wisdom...I'm hoping people will refrain. Unless someone asks for advice I tend to think that we should stick to celebrating when people share their news after the applications have been sent and the decisions have come in.
It depends. Neurotic is 70% troll, but I think it's important to have open discussions about why common wisdom is wise and encourage people to heed it. If a moment can be a teachable one, better to teach than merely celebrate.

I think this is especially important with URMs where the rules are just a tad different, and so bad advice can easily proliferate if unchecked.

In any case, good luck with RTK.
I definitely agree with the common wisdom it's just that right now seems like it's past the point for it to be a teachable moment that's of any use to the applicant in question.

But you're right, people for next cycle might be lurking this thread or read it later and if people want to share their opinions on ED, they certainly can. Mine is that ED is almost always not a good choice because of the high probability you'll end up paying sticker.

ETA: I don't think lexsi's advice was bad. Applying broadly is just what URMs should do, because our cycles can be so unpredictable.

Has anyone done their SEO interview yet? I've heard they are pretty aggressive, and I am also wondering how I am supposed to do a case study question via skype.

I did mine on Skype too. They put the case study on the screen and give you time to read it. But yeah, feel free to PM me

SEO interviewers--

How did you request your interviews to be over Skype? I have mine late next week. Thanks!

The spreadsheet is giving me hope, doesn't seem like a lot of movement on any URM applications except the few of you with exceptional numbers.

I know this is paranoid/neurotic of me, but I'd prefer to wait til the end of my cycle to post my stuff i n the spreadsheet.

Yeah, submitted duke, cornell, georgetown earlier than the rest of my applications, Duke's the first one I've heard back from. Hopefully the good news keeps coming!

Yo! Just been busy finishing up these inconsequential fall finals haha. I haven't received a JS1 yet, but I only submitted to H and the rest of the t6 a couple of days ago

Congrats to everyone-it's been awesome (and nerve wracking) reading everyone's acceptances. In at UVA and Vandy this week and it's surreal. Feel free to PM for timing. That first acceptance feeling and knowing you're going is still settling in and it's a rush. Hope everyone has a good weekend.

I read somewhere (maybe on TLS?) that URM decisions often come out toward the end of the cycle even when they all early. How true is that?

Someone can correct me if I'm wrong, but in my observations of the last few cycles, it's all relative.

In the past, autoadmit URM applying right when apps come out would still occasionally hear from HLS in december, while non-URM autoadmits heard in november. However, this year's cycle is absolutely strange, so I'm not entirely sure how well the past will correlate
