So I posted this in the Admissions forum but thought I'd post it here as well...
"hinking specifically about the socioeconomic questionnaire on the Berkeley app but I'm sure multiple instances of this exist.
I'm just kind of hesitant about submitting it. I *am* a URM, and my parents are separated, but my mother's income is on the higher end because of how much she works so that she can send myself and my siblings to school(she works in the medical field).
I don't know, I just have this idea in my mind that they might get the wrong idea about my socioeconomic status. Not that there's anything wrong with being in a higher socioeconomic category, but I wouldn't want them to give me a negative hit when our lifestyle probably doesn't fit the picture they might have of our income bracket."
It was suggested that I could write an addendum, but is this necessary or even smart? It could come off like begging for pity/charity...
Thoughts? Anyone had a similar experience?
I'm hoping to send this app out tonight, everything else is done

It's optional I believe, so I would only fill it out if you believe it will help you.

The flip side of it is that I don't want them to get an incorrect picture of me based on me NOT filling it out, haha.
Kind of a catch-22 I suppose...but which do you think is more detrimental?

I didn't fill it out. I doubt it matters one way or the other but I just don't like putting parental info on my apps.
I wouldn't worry about it either way.

They're not going to get an incorrect picture of you based on you not filling it out. I didn't fill it out either. From your hesitancy, I get the sense that you should just skip it, but if you want to pm me more details I can try and give you a better answer.

Sorry to post it here, but I have one more application to send in (excluding Yale which I'm holding onto for another month) and I cannot find the Penn forum.
Will someone give a quick read to my 5-year penn essay so I can submit it @ now?
