How the hell do I have 730 posts?
Might as well try for 2000 before fall... is there a URM status for megaposters?

We don't sing our welcome song any more but we ask all the visitors to stand and we say welcome to X Church, a church with open doors, open minds, and open hearts, this is a church of imperfect people striving to be perfectly committed to serving a perfect God. Then we are all supposed to go and greet them, but that turns into 2 minutes of talking to ppl we know.mandyjay11 wrote:Does anyone else go to a church that sings a welcome song every sunday to new comers?
Ours goes: You are welcomed here, you are loved here, you are a part of God's familyyyyy, come on you are welcomed, come on you are LOVEDD, come on you are welcomed in this placeeeeee

This may be of interest:Yaaaas2013 wrote:Does anyone know about the general difficulty of the February LSAT ? I'm thinking bc not too many people sit for that exam , then the curve may be a bit nicer. I'm not too sure about this theory. Thoughts ?

Apple didn't know what Community was and had to google it. She's also trying to keep her post count under 1000 (but this should definitely count in her unofficial total).Quan292 wrote:Gotta have some Troy and Abed

AAs, law schools, and the LSAT
I was caught by his proposition that AAs are "misapplying" to law schools. That, instead of UMN, they should've shot for William Mitchell, where their LSATs would be median. TLS wisdom + this economy unequivocally states that going to William Mitchell is roughly equivalent to playing Russian Roulette with your career, except 5 rounds of 6 you will get shot in the face instead of the other way round. So in way he's advocating graduating more black lawyers into crushing debt. But in that entire 40 min talk he didn't mention the economy, so he must have been setting real-world considerations like having a job aside for the sake of just discussing admissions. Which I don't really approve of, but whatever.
He also seems to contradict Spivey, who says that without people telling AAs to aim higher, they under-perform their numbers by default because they think they have no chance at higher-ranked schools. Though he may have meant those who were already in the 160s, not this guy's hypothetical 155. Generally, it seems like the speaker comes down more heavily on being "principled" and not admitting lower-lsat URMs to compete with higher-lsat students than on giving low-lsat AAs a chance. I don't blame him for that attitude. I do blame him for suggesting that they aim lower and likely graduate in debt and without a job. The USNews may have created a serious problem, but that is most definitely not the solution.

My (very white) church just awkwardly walks around and "greets people" which basically involves saying good morning and then standing around weirdly while everyone else around you is having lengthy conversations.
"So... how long have you been at xyz church? Five years? Huh. It's a... good church... alright."

He's a proponent of the LSAT obviously. His claims on are based on the fact that many African Americans aren't getting admitted because of their poor scores and their choice of places to apply. His argument isn't based on employment outcome, debt level, or anything like that. He's just saying if you have a 150 are applying to to Harvard, you probably aren't going to get in so hopefully your applying elsewhere because its better for you to go to school if you want to become a lawyer than be shut out of law school.midnight_circus wrote:Lol, Apple. Right. I get it. I just don't particularly approve of that kind of argument in a vacuum.Mojosodope wrote:
